Hello, I am currently suffering from an autoimmune flare up, and it’s becoming unbearable. After months of cutting out wheat, dairy and taking suitable vit supplements to try and lower my tpo antibodies (one can dream), I thought I could maybe slow down the destruction of my thyroid gland but to no avail. I am now suffering from extreme fatigue, severe muscle aches, nausea, sore swollen throat, hair falling out and dry, brittle nails and skin, sorry to be gross but my toe nails even have a fungus infection. I also can’t get warm. EVER.
I will go back to the gp tomorrow and ask for a blood test form, get my vit d, vit b and selenium checked, get my tpo, Tsh and Free T4 checked.
My antibody levels will come back at ridiculously high, but my tsh will be the bad end of normal and so will my free t4. So the gp will do nothing, because there is no meds that may help for Hashimoto’s, like other autoimmune diseases. Or,
my levels will show I am hypo so I can start on thyroid meds that will help with the thyroid but not the hashimotos.
What is the answer? I feel like crying, I feel so ill and don’t know how to help myself. Sleeping all day and eating well don’t make the symptoms go away. I know a lot of you have gone through the same situation or are going through it now, do you have any advise please? thank you xx
Hey, I had a few flare ups before, they are no fun, hang in there, this will go away.
Testing is important to see how your levels have changed. Don't get discouraged by antibodies, I also worked on them super hard and then they have gone up again. You need rest. It's easy to say, I know, but check the levels, post them on the forum and take it from there. I understand that you don't take any form of meds now for hypo?
As SlowDragon said, you can get nail fungus from being hypo, but don't focus right now on these single symptoms, you need to be tested, ok?

Thank you cupofcha, no not on any medication. I’ve had Hashimoto’s for 10 years, but have only had 2 ‘abnormal’ bloods in that time, hyper first time (took carbimazole for 18 months) and hypo second, offered no meds. I do feel now my thyroid has taken a beating long enough. Will definitely get a blood test form tomorrow.

What's abnormal is debatable, isn't it your symptoms say you are hypo, so once you have results, post them and let's have a look. Take care and just try to take it easy
Oh SOBS 😢 I feel your pain. I’m just coming out the other side of 8mths of symptoms. I was/am housebound for the last 2mths. I’m getting better. I am still dealing with a beautiful big toe infection, the whole nail came of and it’s finally growing back. Way back in 2014 before I’d heard of Wentz, I started following Zoe Harcombe. She goes against the whole ‘calories in, calories out’ philosophy that’s just not working for overweight people. I love her style and follow it in my eating habits as a general rule.
Wow . This is me too . I’m seeing my gp today as my big toe is black . My toe nail not been right for years but when I had clippings us was ok . Saw a podiatrist who gave me laser , it helped but then I was so poorly I stopped going .
I’m Hashimotos too with MECFS.
It’s a nightmare, it’s one thing or another constantly
Hi reading from what you have written about your antibodys it may help for you to address other sensitivities, I have recently had no option than to do this myself with amazing results . Don't have to wait for test results as they will confirm what we already know. A water filter jug for removing environmental toxins is a great start , if your fatigued your toxins are high and your folate is low . I use floradix iorn and vitamin solution every other day as don't eat red meat , vit K2 D3 B12 selenium and zinc are a fabulous starting point so please don't wait . Exercise 50 star jumps every morning ( I know but works) I also use a vibration plate to G up my recovery from flares .
To help sleep patterns a hot full fat milk drink like ovaltine * added vits * helps me before bed and a white noise alarm clock thingy that mimics waves crashing has been a life saver too . U can and will ffix yourself listening to the correct advice .and there's lots of it on here if you are just prepared to listen,
if I've missed anything please ask .
Tam x
Thank you tamihotpants, it’s kind of you to share your advice with me 😊. I have had my blood results and they aren’t bad, I will post them shortly. I think my symptoms, although they cane on suddenly, are down to perimenopause 😔😔
