Any tips for recovering from the excessive alcohol

Four weeks ago I had drinks with friends that turned into a sesh, an extreme hangover where I was sick four times and the hangover lasted until the Wednesday. I know this was the level of wine I drank combined with the fact that I am hypo and am on Gabapentin for sciatica and it was totally irresponsible to drink that much.

Prior to that the combo of levo and tiromel was working. Aside from a raging appetite I was in a brilliant mood, my patience was good and my libido had returned.

Since that Saturday i feel like I've had a decline. My anxiety has returned. I am really short tempered. And all of that is affecting everything else. I know alcohol is bad if you're hypo and apart from the odd g&t I rarely drink now. I want to know if there's any way I can stop my decline apart from eating ring well and drinking lots of water which I am doing. I am supplementing my vit D, magnesium, selenium and zinc. Is there anything else I should take? Anything else I should do?

Thanks

Maybe a liver supplement? Milk thistle?

Everyone has their own cure but prevention is the best answer. I always adhere to my old nan's advice " Never mix grain and grape. " but I used to find a long walk worked best for me even though you may have to force yourself to.

4wks! Jaysus that’s the longest hangover ever! I’d get Guinness book of records out! 🤪😎

Sorry for the joshin I hope you’re the sort to see the funny side. But no! It’s not funny when you are still feeling off and you’re probably making it worse by guilting yourself! Honest we’re our own worst enemies sometimes. Hardest on our selves.

But listen hear I don’t want to live the life of a Puritan! I love a wee drink and although it’s been about a year since I’ve been ‘drunk’ to the extent that you’ve just said, I still remember it. It was a bloody good night and the hangover lasted 3days. Now I enjoy a couple of glasses of red and I’m done (but I’m Hypo atm so I don’t have any social life Atm)

Should you go back to basics? You said you were doing very well, I’m really not sure that one binge evening is going to set you back this much. Maybe it’s a coincidence 🤷‍♀️ Either way my feelings would be the same. Get your levels checked, thyriod function and vitamins. And stop being so hard on yourself, we’re not expected to holier than thou are we? If that’s the case I’m f***ed 😬

I have an endo appointment in the middle of May so will have the full panel done then. I think I've finally learned my lesson though. I bought a bottle of Malbec yesterday and it didn't taste right. We went out for our anniversary last week and could only cope with one glass of wine. Dammit

30 plus 10 😉. Age. Thyroid. Strong pain meds. It's the perfect storm

😂 exacerbated by the fact that everyone assumes because I’m Irish I can drink! 😂 I’m such a lightweight.

Just a thought. Maybe the alcohol has caused you to have or develop some absorption problems maybe not previously apparent.

Maybe try working on improving gut health? Some probiotics? Less sugar overall? Anti-inflammatory food and avoiding inflammatory ones? Easy-google inflammatory foods and you'll get easy short info. You don't have to give up foods you like forever but anytime we can improve our gut health everything gets better.

It is so hard to eat healthy in today's world wherever we live. The soil, the additives and preservatives we don't know about-we can only do the best we can. I would say stay away from processed foods for a while-reading their ingredient labels is an eye-opener!

Someone once said; 'if you can't pronounce it don't eat it.'

Feel better. irina PS We all know alcohol in excess isn't good for us but I believe it well might be consuming all the sugar that is part of it can do a lot of harm. Sugar is sugar.

Maybe eating a whole chocolate cake would cause as much distress as a 'bender!"

(I would hope not!!!

This theory many be nonsense but it sure sounds a good! LOL irina

For those of us who do not speak Welsh, go to Wales and starve?

Llaeth, wyau wedi'u potsio, afalau, pori, menyn, bara heb glwten.

And that's just breakfast. :-)

😂

LOL! But it sounds good, and if it translates to a full English breakfast I'll take it even if I have to study "Welsh for Dummies" first.

A full American breakfast-eggs, bacon, hash browns/grits, toast etc can't compare to the English one.

Yum. Except for blood pudding!

None of them compare to an Ulster fry that yer mammy makes ❤️

in reply toNWA6

Well I'm third generation Irish so I need to know what is involved in an Ulster fry?

Predominantly the soda farls and potato bread are what separate it from other fry ups 🥳

Well, in English:

Milk, poached eggs, apples, porage/porridge, butter, gluten-free bread.

in reply tohelvella

Where's the jam/marmalade/preserves???

The Welsh words are too, too easy!

Mae marmalêd, jamiau, yn cadw.

in reply tohelvella

Easy. Now I can order breakfast in Wales!

Yeah pretty boring 😬😂 To be fair I haven’t had an Ulster fry in years. My fry ups now are gluten free sausages, fried eggs, scrambled eggs, maybe a slice of bacon (unsmoked) and some plum tomatoes. But rarely for breakfast usually brunch or a lazy dinner.

in reply toNWA6

I like a late breakfast (brunch) and an early dinner. Early I just need coffee to kick my brain into gear.

Yep coffee is my breakfast, the only time I can tolerate caffeine ( an hour after meds I might add 😇 lest I be struck down 😂)
