Why does this happen

I thought I had found my solution after suffering so badly for nearly 3 years on T4 pills and my GP just not helping, then I found this forum and discovered T3 pills which has saved me for the last year.

But back at the end of January I started having funny turns, and I eventually could not ignore them...feeling very spaced out, like I was out of control of my body and going to collapse! And strange headaches going down the back of my neck and head, then finally the last one I had numb cold arms and legs, so got a bit scared! Plus all my friends said I had become very anxious, and I was finding it very difficult to deal with anything slightly stressful, like I couldn't cope anymore with anything. And aware of strange heart pounding

So I stopped the T3, but as soon as I stop that within 48 hours my tummy swells up so much, it turns into a ballon, but feels so heavy like its full of lead, its so bad I dont feel like I can move, really uncomfortable, and my back aches and all my muscles ache and I seem to strain a muscle almost every day from just slightly moving wrongly. And I get so so down. I can't do anything. And like my head is in a clamp. And hot sweats.

So I need the T3 it seems. So I went back to one of my Dithyron pills per day, thats what I have been on and had been fine with (till end of jan) as I react badly to most other pills - 1 pill is 50mg of T4 and 12.5mg of T3. But I started to feel funny again so went down to half a pill = 25mg of T4 and 6mg of T3, but that was not enough and the bloating came back etc. So then had the idea of adding 1 x 30mg capsule of metavive.....as having read about this on this forum. No anxiety, heart pounding, more calmer, but tummy still bloated and muscles/back aching. So have gone up to 2 x 30mg .....does'nt seem any difference.

Why does the higher dose of T3 stop my tummy swelling up, muscles aching,...how can I achieve this but not have the spaced out, feeling like i am going to collapse , anxiety and can't cope. What am I doing wrong, I am trying to self medicate as that seems from the forum the best idea, but I am a bit stuck now as to what to try next.

I take vitamin b12 and vitamin d and iron too. I eat really really healthy ...fish and lots of vegetables, no gluten or lactose....unless i am in need of a treat occasionally when i get so low i don't care anymore!

Let me just clarify. Did the strange spaced out feelings with pounding heart stop when you stopped the T3 and have they started again when back on it? Have you taken your pulse and temp recently as that would be useful info? Have you changed brands of T4 or T3? Do you have any recent bloods? Have you ever had adrenals tested?

Hi patchpink I totally sympathise! I am in a pickle like this too at the moment. For me it happened due to raising my T4 too high, too quickly. I've tried reducing my T4 down in various amounts since then and I end up with half a dozen hyper symptoms and half a dozen hypo symptoms. Ahhh! Lol... Sigh. .. A cause of this for you could be a thyroid "storm" which I've read up on recently as it seems similar to a dosage change when suddenly your meds dosage isn't right anymore. It sounds like it's a surge in hormones that we can suddenly have? Someone correct me if I'm wrong. Perhaps you are having a thyroid storm?

Have you had tests to see where you're at? I'm self treating too and discovered I had overmedicated myself by doing a Blue Horizon blood test.

But wow I just can't settle on a new dose level that works either right now. I take T4 and T3 separately.

One thing that adds to the confusion is that T4 takes a Long time to diminish in the system... Apparently longer than it does to enter the system. So hopping up and down on dosage trying to feel right in the moment... Well it can help in the moment for a while but over the course of 6 weeks or even 10 weeks or longer(!) your T4 level will be making a gradual longer change as well as the day by day changes you feel from dosage adjustments. So what feels right and true one day may feel terrible a week or so later. Or what dosage feels awful one day might work out to be a brilliant dosage 6 weeks later. This is the kind of inconsistency I've been noticing while trying to find some balance after my mishap with taking too much T4.

I just have to trust that Eventually I will find my correct dose again. It may not be what it was before. I might have changed after this whole experience settles. It is a bloomin' nightmare but I hope it will get better. It's just trial and error. I hope you feel better soon!! I hope someone has a magic wand solution but I expect you need to just keep trying and see what works over time. Hugs

A thyroid storm is a rare life threatening condition with a high mortality rate of c15%; and someone suffering from it would be very ill indeed and presumably in ITU. I think you are confusing it with a Hashimoto's flare where there can be a temporary increase in thyroid hormone blood levels immediately after an autoimmune attack on the thyroid.

Hello, your symptoms sound like B12 deficiency to me. I had horrible B12 deficiency symptoms such as extreme weakness, dizziness, chest pain, pains down my arms and legs, headaches, pounding heart. The only thing that stopped this was self injecting with B12. You need to get your blood tested to find out your levels although my active B12 levels are a lot higher than the normal B12 tests which were very low but not low enough for my GP to help me. Jo x

Hey, my personal experience is that t3 makes me feel dizzy spaced out, gives me anxiety, it feels like something crawls over my brain :) however, it seems like you have changed doses so quickly and for any effects - you do need to wait ..with T4 it does take many weeks to feel good and initially you might way worse. It's hard to say. With bloated belly - I have it now for several months - for me it's a sign of hormonal imbalance, issues with low stomach acid etc. For now I'm helping it with eating a tonne of veggies and it does work, but I expect my belly to return to normal once my levels stabilise.
