I am a usually health, fit and active 51-year-old male. I have recently upped my T-Man NDT dosage to 4-tablets/grains.
I certainly feel the best I have during the past 18-24 months. No more weight gain (although there is still some stubborn midriff fat to get rid of, but this could also be (in part) a cortisol issue), joint and muscle pain, constipation, depression (I still experience occasional mood-swings though), slowed heart rate (fractional increase), dry skin and/or hair (I used to scratch my lower legs until they bled), Trouble tolerating cold (I always seemed to be cold!) and fatigue (I used to need regular afternoon power naps and lost interest in exercising, despite this being one of my great passions). I increased my dosage in half-tablet increments from 2-tablets/grains onwards, every 2-weeks. I have noticed several changes, 1) a slight increase in resting heartrate, 2) I feel warmer, 3) I sweat more, 4) sleep warmer, and 5) seem to have somewhat laboured breathing (like I can’t take a deep breath, especially at the beginning of a run until I am warmed up). Changes 1 – 4 I accept as par for the course, however, I am somewhat concerned about change 5. Will this settle down in time?
Also, I am thinking I may need to drop back 1-grain on the T4/T3 NDT and perhaps take an additional T3 tablet.
I should add I am doing all of this by trial and error because my GPs and endocrinologist are not onboard with this. They believe because my bloods returned clinically within range, I am fine and should stop worrying. They would not listen to my arguments about sub-clinical issues. Like most people on this forum I am not a medical expert, I just wanted to get my health back on track. So that I could be consistent and somewhat scientific about my approach and monitoring my progress, I chart my progress morning and night. To my untrained eyes nothing jumps out at me as out of the ordinary.
Thank you

You might find the following link helpful. This doctor disliked the modern method of diagnosing/treating patients. He only took one blood test and that was for the initital diagnosis.
Is the cause of your hypothyroidism due to Graves or Hashimoto's?
For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4 and FT3 plus both TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested.
Also extremely important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12
Low vitamin levels are extremely common, especially if Thyroid antibodies are raised
Recommended on here that all thyroid blood tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and fasting. Last Levothyroxine dose should be 24 hours prior to test, (taking delayed dose immediately after blood draw). This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip, best not mentioned to GP or phlebotomist)
If/when also on T3, or NDT make sure to take last dose 8-12 hours prior to test
Is this how you do your tests?
Private tests are available. Thousands on here forced to do this as NHS often refuses to test FT3 or antibodies or all vitamins
Medichecks Thyroid plus ultra vitamin or Blue Horizon Thyroid plus eleven are the most popular choice. DIY finger prick test or option to pay extra for private blood draw. Both companies often have special offers, Medichecks usually have offers on Thursdays, Blue Horizon its more random
