Probiotics and T3 is it safe?

Hi all quick question would it be ok to take a probiotic while on T3? Couple month back i was on a whole wack of antibiotics for a tooth infection and it left me with a numbness in the arm feeling horrible side affect to them. My pharmacist thinks its a good idea to take some probiotics and says the guy plays a vital role in health. One i have is OptiBac probiotics. Im just a little nervous when it comes to taking new things.

I have taken probiotics for a long time and I take T3 with my Levo.

My understanding is that if you are given antibiotics, then start taking probiotics with them and carry on the probiotics or a few weeks after the antibiotics have finished.

I have never had thrush, and I take a "maintenance dose" of antibiotic (one tablet 3 times a week) for a non-thyroid condition.

Is it ok to take in the morning alongside thyroid meds?

No, you take nothing at all with your thyroid meds except a glass of water. Levo should be taken on an empty stomach, one hour before or two hours after food, and two hours away from any other medication and supplements (some need 4 hours or as far as possible). You can take Levo at a time to suit you - morning, before bed, middle of the night if you need a bathroom visit - you just need to make sure you follow the advice above.

I have read that it's best to take probiotics in the morning, 30 minutes before a meal, or with a meal containing healthy fats. If you experience discomfort/bloating then take it on an empty stomach before bed. This is what I have read, not my advice.

Hi vooxxy I am also taking Optibac since having just finished yet another dose of antibiotics for a chest infection. Can't remember ever having a chest infection before, sohope this is not going to stay with me now. I take the Optibac at lunchtime, but I think Breakfast time is meant to be better. Wish you well.

Antibiotics are the opposite of probiotics. Probiotics are what you take to counteract the effect of antibiotics and are quite safe with T3 or levo (but take with a meal at least an hour away from your thyroid meds).

A great one to take for a few months after antibiotics is Florastor (s. boulardii). It is a beneficial yeast that restores gut balance. My functional nutritionist says the strains are patented & that Florstor is the only company that holds the patent on this certain strain of s. boulardii that is the best one. If you can't find Florastor, there are other companies that sell s. boulardii, as well.

And the antibiotics are like mini nukes that just destroy everything hence why i got thrush from it.

Not only will probiotics be safe in the case but I would say absolutely necessary especially after an antibiotic course. But yes before going in for probiotic supplements, it is best to make sure they are from a reliable brand. Preferably natural probiotics would be best. I am not familiar with OptiBac honestly speaking but I have used and would say it was great for me; Flourish Probiotics by Eu Natural. This is a completely natural combination of good bacteria that helped me a lot with some digestive problems I was having.

Let me know if you might need more info.
