Diagnosed with Hasimotos disease as TPO level was 1300.

I was advised on this forum to also have my ferratin, folate and B12 checked, my results are as follows:

Serum vitamin B12 level 607 ng/L [211.0 - 911.0]

Serum ferritin level 342 ug/L [10.0 - 322.0]

Above high reference limit

Serum folate level > 24.0 ug/L [5.4 - 24.0]

Above high reference limit

Doctors comments have said they're "satisfactory"

Can anyone confirm this as I don't trust my doctors as they don't seem to know much about autoimmune conditions.

Thanks

They look ok - are you taking supplements?

Was Vitamin D tested?

Have you any symptoms?

Thanks, no I'm not taking any supplements, vit D wasn't tested as I'm taking it with calcium already due to osteopenia, and luckily I've no actual symptoms apart from being tired, and weight gain that's why I'm shocked I've been diagnosed with Hashi's as I'm quite symptom free, I've was put on 25mg of Levo but my TSH was still not optimal so I've had it increased to 50mg, I don't feel any better or worse so thought I'd get my b12, ferratin & folate tested.

Thanks for your reply

Are you taking an iron supplement?

No gabkad, no supplements at all

Your ferritin is too high.

Cut and pasted from the Mayo Clinic website:

The normal range for blood ferritin is:

For men, 20 to 500 nanograms per milliliter

For women, 20 to 200 nanograms per milliliter

Lower than normal results

A lower than normal ferritin level indicates that you have iron deficiency. You may also be anemic. If your ferritin level is low, your doctor will work to determine the cause.

Higher than normal results

A higher than normal ferritin level can be caused by:

Hemochromatosis — A condition that causes your body to absorb too much iron from the food you eat

Porphyria — A group of disorders caused by an enzyme deficiency that affects your nervous system and skin

Rheumatoid arthritis or another chronic inflammatory disorder

Liver disease

Hyperthyroidism

Leukemia

Hodgkin's lymphoma

Multiple blood transfusions

Alcohol abuse

If your ferritin level is above normal, your doctor may need to evaluate the results along with those of other tests to determine next steps.

For specifics about what your ferritin test results mean, talk to your doctor.

High ferritin symptoms = fatigue, muscle and joint pain.

Don't get too freaked out. I'm sure it's not half of the things on the list.

But you need to check out for the most common things.

You know what you are doing and how you are living.

Overweight = fatty liver = high ferritin. (as well as with too much

alcohol consumption).... Get liver enzymes checked...

50 mcg of thyroxine is nothing. You'll need to increase the dose until you

are taking a full replacement.

The antibodies involved in Hashimoto's can adversely affect liver function.

Thanks, I'm getting next blood test in a month so I'll speak to doctor then, I don't drink and I'm only 8 Stone so that rules out a couple of things :)

"No gabkad, no supplements at all "

Are you sure about that ???

No point in having Vitamin B12, B9 (Folate) and Ferritin tested if (for example) already on Multivitamins long term. How would you know if you had Pernicious Anemia? Have you ever been tested for it?

Have you ever had B12 & Folate tested in the past? Ever had any other Antibodies tested? Who diagnosed Osteoporosis? Rheumatologist? You could apply to thd hospital for copies of your records free of charge. Ask for all your blood tests results and notes.

Also - You have just replied that you are taking prescribed calcium&VitD supplements !!

Were you taking Multiminerals when you had the Ferritin tested?

Not what you're looking for?
