Blood Test results (now on t3)

Hi all,

I was wondering if you could help me. I was prescribed t3/ t4 combination.

I was taking 100mg levothyroxine and 10mg Liothyronine (split into two per day, so 5mg in the morning and afternoon)

My results were as follows:

FT4: 16.8

FT3: 5.5pmol/L

TSH: 0.03

My endo has now changed my medication to 75mg and 100mg on alternative days (levothyroxine) and 10mg (split into 5mg in the morning and afternoon), as he says my TSH is suppressed.

I still don’t feel 100% since the endo has added the t3 (since Nov).

Could somebody just help me understand the results? I’m not actually sure what the results mean. Are there any supplements I can take to help. I’m just confused really.

Can you add the ranges, just so we know how to advise? Doesn’t the endo know adding T3 tends to drop your TSH, FT4 etc? Dropping the levo will probably lower your FT3 too. Adding T3 is not an easy option, but I presume you were treated with levo. to get your FT4 over range yet your FT3 still remained low, so T3 was added to raise it? Are you Hashi, and had folate, ferritin, B12, vit D tested too?

It's a bit difficult to say anything, actually, because you haven't given the ranges. But, it's clear that your endo is a diabetes specialist and doesn't know much thyroid. He's only looking at the TSH, which is suppressed. And it is suppressed because you are taking T3 - that's normal and he should know that. If he things that reducing the levo by 12.5 mcg daily is going to raise the TSH, then he clearly knows nothing about thyroid. Because it isn't. And it doesn't matter.

I don't know if you need more levo or T3 because you haven't given the ranges - the numbers in brackets after the result. But, I very much doubt if you need less - especially not if you have symptoms. What you need is an endorectomy, because this endo is going to make you sick!

Thank you for your comments. I have requested the ranges for the blood test, and will post as soon as I get them.

The Endo mentioned there’s a risk of osteoporosis if I have a suppressed TSH, which slightly worried me.
