I’ve recently had isssues with my thyroid, more specifically it being overactive. I wanted to share my story and bloods results to get an opinion of what is happening to me. Any comments help is much appreciated.
When I was diagnosed on the 13th Dec 2018 my bloods read: tsh 0.01. T3 11.3. T4 32.
I had palpertations, no sleep, tremors in my hands but more importantly I was very irritable/confused & anxious.
After being referred to the endo,he put me on 30mg Carbimazole a day which only improved my symptoms with regards to the sleep, palpitations and tremors. 4 weeks later I was feeling more anxious and irritable, I went the doctors and was issued with 80mg of beta blockers. They certainly helped my anxiety & how irritable I felt.
Fast forward to today I have been seen by my endo again. According to my bloods I’m now underactive. Tsh 89.69. T3 3.1. T4 7.
My endo has instructed me to stop with the carbimazole then go for another blood test in 2 weeks because he thinks my thyroid is ok now because the carbimazole has sent me the other way. The endo doesn’t think I have graves or hash’s because he checked for both on my bloods & both were clear.
Just wanted to know the opinion of the forum please. I’ve been off work for 2 and a bit months, I’m losing my identity in terms of social life and character/sense of humour. I always want to be isolated because my patience threshold is so low, I lose my temper so easily which is totally not normally me.
Thanks in advance
Craig

I’ve stopped taking carbimazole today & will continue taking the beta-blockers. I’m on no other medication.
My endo didn’t say, he just said he didn’t think it was graves or hasti’s but he couldn’t tell me 100% because sometimes they don’t show up on blood results. Only results I have are the ones on the attachment sorry.
For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4 and FT3 plus both TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested. Also extremely important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12
Low vitamin levels are extremely common, especially if Thyroid antibodies are raised
Recommended on here that all thyroid blood tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and fasting. This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip, best not mentioned to GP or phlebotomist)
Private tests are available. Thousands on here forced to do this as NHS often refuses to test FT3 or antibodies or all vitamins
Medichecks Thyroid plus ultra vitamin or Blue Horizon Thyroid plus eleven are the most popular choice. DIY finger prick test or option to pay extra for private blood draw. Both companies often have special offers, Medichecks usually have offers on Thursdays, Blue Horizon its more random
Private testing for suspected Graves - TSI or TRab antibodies
Definitely sounds like graves even though it’s not showing up this is not uncommon a good site to check on would be the Lucy rose clinic and would be better able to tell you that bloods do not tell the whole story for some
Hi this sounds very like my situation, but I have graves.
I was very over active oct/Nov put on 40mg carbizamole and blood thinners beta blockers. Very bad palpatations which gave me Atriel fibrillation. Last bloods taken In a and e last week were tsh 71. Can't remember the rest !!
Now I'm on 50mh thyroxin as end doing block and replace. Seeing him on Friday
Hi there, you have my sympathies about how you've been feeling as I've had similar symptoms and it's truly awful! Your initial results were very similar to mine a few weeks ago. I was diagnosed with Hashi's this summer and then also Graves' more recently. I'm on Carbimazole and my last thyroid test results show that my levels have reduced and are now at the lower end of normal (although my TSH was still at 0.01 or less). Hope you can get some answers if you still feel so poorly.
Your symptoms sound similar to mine, diagnosed with Graves 2003.
To diagnose Graves Disease you need to have a positive blood test for the TSI/TRab antibodies - otherwise, as previously suggested, you could have Hashimoto's whereby
you experience " flare's " and the antibodies fluctuate accordingly.
The treatment of these two thyroid disorders differs - so the antibody test is essential.
I can't see an antibodies blood test on there. You really need that done. Sounds just like me before I was diagnosed with graves. Bit strange he said just stop Carbimazole rather than reduce it. Don't be surprised if the symptoms come back as it can go into remission and flare up again. Have you got another appointment? Or ask GP to do antibodies test.
