Hashimoto’s

Hello everyone,

I am new in the app. I am 21 years old. Have had Hashimoto’s since I was 9 years old and I am holding it under control with Levothyroxine 150mcg. I often feel cold, dizzy, sleepy, out of energy and other things that come with it. But found it reaaally helpful to supplement with Zinc, Selenium, magnesium, vit D, vit B12, Iron and (sometimes) multivitamin. I know it seems like a lot but this really helps me with energy levels and general well being.

If any of you would like to share some of your experiences and tips, please do. 🤗

Did you get your vit D, B12 and iron tested before starting supplementing? If not, you should get it done now. We should only take what we need, and only as much as we need. And to know that, we have to get tested.

You're wasting your money with a multivit, for several reasons:

* If your multi contains iron, it will block the absorption of all the vitamins - you won't absorb a single one! Iron should be taken at least two hours away from any other supplement except vit C, which is necessary to aid absorption of iron, and protect the stomach.

* If your multi also contains calcium, the iron and calcium will bind together and you won't be able to absorb either of them.

* Multi's often contain things you shouldn't take or don't need : calcium, iodine, copper. These things should be tested before supplementing.

* Multi's often contain the cheapest, least absorbable form of the supplement : magnesium oxide, instead of magnesium citrate or one of the other good forms; cyanocobalamin instead of methylcobalamin; folic acid instead of methylfolate; etc. etc. etc.

* Multi's do not contain enough of anything to help a true deficiency, even if you could absorb them.

I'd put it in the bin, if I were you, where it belongs. :)

Wow thanks on all that info about multivits... My GP told me to take Iron because my hemaglobin levels were low, and endocrinologist told me to take magnesium, zinc and selenium, vit B12 and vit D... I’m actually waiting for the results of blood tests to see if there are deficiencies. 😊

So, were the B12 and vit D tested before or after you started supplementing them?

Before I started supplementing. And I took multivits by myself, just to get in more nutrients. But other supplementation was advised to me by those doctors... on Tuesday my blood test should come back to see if I have any deficiencies anymore.

OK, well, if you want any help with the results, just post them with the ranges, and someone will come along to advise. :)
