Hi

My serum vit b12 levels are 1100. The normal range is 200-900. I take multivitamins. Is it dangerous for pregnancy?

Do you have a thyroid condition?

TSH should be under 2.5 for TTC and pregnancy

For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4 and FT3 plus both TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested. Also extremely important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12

Low vitamin levels are extremely common, especially if Thyroid antibodies are raised

Recommended on here that all thyroid blood tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and fasting. Do not take Levothyroxine dose in the 24 hours prior to test, delay and take immediately after blood draw. This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip, best not mentioned to GP or phlebotomist)

Does your multivitamin contain B12 or do you take B12 separately? If so this could be causing your high level.

there is no known toxicity from B12 so it shouldn't be a problem for pregnancy but suggest you try asking a pharmacist

I would suggest that you cut back on the B12 supplementation though.

If you ARE NOT taking high level supplements (500mcg+) then please consult your doctor and ask for a kidney and liver panel to check that there isn't something else going on.

Hi there my mum has been under investigation just recently as her b12 has been high for a good while now >2000, she does not take any b12 supplements, we were told it can be a underlying problem with liver, kidney and other serious conditions ( sorry not trying to scare you) mum has had her liver and kidney tested and also for cancer of the blood too...all clear, i know its quite scary but it should be looked into, gp scratching their heads at moment as the only thing they have detected is mums bone blood test came back abnormal ( vit d and calcium problem)

Hope you get it sorted and please do not worry about some of the tests as it is routine. Good luck🍀
