Advice before Thyroid Function Blood Test

Hi I am finally getting around to having my private thyroid function blood tests done as I am feeling a bit under the weather and would like to know if there is something wrong with my bloods and wonder if I need to stop taking any of these vitamins beforehand and if so for how long:

Vitamin D

Vitamin B12

Selenium

Resveratrol

Turmeric

Magnesium

I take all of the above daily and also take Levothyroxine 100 umg and 15 umg T3. I have been feeling great up until recently when I have started to feel a bit nauseous, shaky and out of sorts.

Any advice would be gratefully appreciated. I have paid for a Blue Horizon test which I plan to do asap but wanted to ask if there is anything listed above that I should cut out before the test.

I had a TT last April and as I said above was feeling quite well for some time but have felt iffy for the past month.

Thank you so much. I really do love this site and have found it very informative and helpful.

Don't take any supplements on the day until after the blood draw.

B12 result won't be a baseline, you need to be off B12 for about 4 months to get a baseline, but it will show if you are taking enough or to much.

As you are taking B12 you should be taking a B Complex to balance all the B vitamins. If you are taking a B Complex and it contains Biotin (B7) then leave that off for 3-5 days before the test.

I can't help with Resveratrol or Turmeric.

It depends how you're taking turmeric. On its own, as a food stuff, it's no problem. If in fact you are taking it in tablet form as curcumin, you'd need to check what it is combined with in the supplement. By the way, there are important cofactors for curcumin - lipids and piperine in freshly ground black pepper - hence why people take it as Golden paste.

Your b12 could be slightly above range ... comments you get from the lab about it may be a bit unhelpful... as it's not a true reflection of cellular levels. You're not taking iron, but best not have liver or meat high in iron the day before the test either. Some of your symptoms (feeling shaky) could possibly be ones of low iron, so its important that you do get that properly assessed. (There are other things that can cause these symptoms though... such as low b vitamins especially low b6 - Igennus does a very well recommended one, but as it is a comprehensive b vitamin complex it does contain Biotin.)
