I had a thyroidectomy about 8 years ago. I have never been the same. It was removed because of nodules that were not cancerous. I rarely see a discussion about those who have no thyroid. I was not doing good before the surgery, and feeling worse now. Is there anyone out there that has is experiencing similar?

No thyroid
There are many on the forum with no thyroid. Have you got recent results to show TSH, T4 and T3 ? You may be under or overmedicated or be on a thyroid replacement that doesn't suit you, there are vitamin and mineral levels to address as well so lots of possible reason you feel unwell.
Hello a1glenn
I had my thyroid ablated with radioactive iodine 2005 so realistically it's still there but disabled and by this time shrunk and shrivelled up offering nothing worth talking about.
As previously suggested without the full blood tests for thyroid, vitamins and minerals plus the ranges, your replies will be mostly vague though sympathetic to your situation.
Your doctor may offer to do these blood tests for you, but many here resort to private tests for completeness of T3 andT4 results, not just relying on a TSH read which many doctors use in isolation, despite you now not even having a thyroid.
Your not alone, you will find support and once with the blood tests and ranges posted others more able than me will suggest a road to better health.
This is a fantastic web site, you've chosen well, read all you can to equip yourself.
I had a thyroidectomy in 2006 and I agree that I do not seem quite like the same person now but I have managed to get enough of the right medication to make life tolerable and mostly absolutely fine. Once you have posted the blood test results, we shall all rush in with advice but mine would be for you somehow to get hold of a medication called Liothyronine, which is another thyroid hormone you can add to your Levothyroxine.
Tell us what you are taking and what dose and we can tell you how to improve your life and health. I expect you are also low in iron, ferritin stores, B12, Folate and Vit D. Ask your GP to test these and post results with your thyroid results. Mostly GPs know very little about thyroid so do not be surprised to see a blank face when you ask for help. If no help is forthcoming, you can get private tests done, with details on this site.
Hope this helps.
I really hate to year this. I had mine removed 4 months again and I feel terrible and worry I will never be well again.
Hi morehead, 4 months is really no time at all in terms of recovering from thyroid cancer treatment. I have also had follicular cancer, and an Endo eventually told me about a year after my first operation that she expects everyone to take at least a year to get settled on their hormone replacement and start to feel recovered. It's possible you are still on track to make a full recovery and be one of the lucky ones! Trying to remember that can be very difficult if course, the emotional side of things, staying positive and accepting being sick is the hardest bit in my opinion.
Hi a1glenn, I've just clicked through from your comment in another post. I'd definitely advise you to get hold of your blood tests from your GP, you're entitled to copies so go in and ask. If you can't get good test results, think about getting your own done.
We really do have to double check what doctors are doing, and it might be quite simple to change a few things and get big improvements.
