Still struggling

Its been five months since my complete thyroidectomy. Been through 11 doctors searching for help. Im now taking NDT 65mcg (1grain), split morning and afternoon + T4 , ttl t3 is 27 mcg ttl t4 is 135mcg. Headaches and neck pain have been eliminated but I'm very hyper during the day and can barely sleep a couple of hours (taking magnesium, 12.5mg of xanax, or 25mg or trazadone to sleep). If i drop my t3 headaches come back with a vengence. Reverse t3 is 14, tsh 1, free t3 is 3.1, not sure what to do at this point. Only been on this much t3 for 4 days.

Can you add the ranges for your results, as they can vary lab to lab. Can you clarify what you mean by 'ttl T3 is 23 mcg' as 1 grain NDT contains only 9 mcg T3.

Thank you for the reply. Ttl = total t3. I am trying to simply state that i take a total of 23 mcg of t3 by taking nearly 3 grains of NDT (dividing the pills with a kitchen). 1 and 1/2 grains in the morning and the 1 1/4 at 2pm.

My ranges have only recently come into normal levels. But free t3 has been as low as 1 up the last result at 3.1

So are you taking 2.3/4 every day. You have a low FT3 reading for taking that much NDT.

Essential to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12

These need to be at good levels for any thyroid hormones to work well

For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4 and FT3. Also extremely important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12

Low vitamin levels are extremely common

All thyroid blood tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and fasting. Do not take Levothyroxine dose in the 24 hours prior to test, delay and take immediately after blood draw. This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip, best not mentioned to GP or phlebotomist)

If also on T3, or NDT make sure to take last dose exactly 12 hours prior to test

Private tests are available. Thousands on here forced to do this as NHS often refuses to test FT3 or antibodies

Only test thyroid levels after 6-8 weeks on constant dose of thyroid hormones

Medichecks Thyroid plus ultra vitamin or Blue Horizon Thyroid plus eleven are the most popular choice. DIY finger prick test or option to pay extra for private blood draw. Both companies often have special offers, Medichecks usually have offers on Thursdays, Blue Horizon its more random
