Will Levo still work if vitamins aren't optimal?

I had an ultrasound last Friday which shows damage, I have to wait 10 days before my GP will get the results.

My idea over these few weeks was to build up my vitamin levels, test them via Medichecks and then go back to my gp and request Levo.

My problem is my bladder. Its a big problem actually which can get very depressing. Im taking amitrytiline for the pain I get when it flares up. Vitamin D and vitamin b complex really irritate it. I have no doubt my vitamin D is low, probably B12 too I want to take supplements but I can't!

Maybe I could get what I need through food? Does hashimoto always deplete vitamin levels?

I forgot to add that I have been gluten free these last few weeks

You should test vitamin levels BEFORE starting supplements

Pain in bladder is presumably a Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) which are MUCH more common when hypothyroid

Ask GP to test vitamin D, folate, B12 and ferritin

Did you get coeliac blood test before going strictly gluten free?

It could be interstitial cystitis - mostly affects women, but does also affect men.

Yes it is 😢 (I'm female) I've had it 20+ years.

I'm sorry to hear that, how horrible for you.

Hi, thanks for your response.

I should that I have had problems with my bladder for years. It's not an infection just painful bladder syndrome (IC) certain foods, supplements irritate it

I didn't test for coeliacs disease, just read on here it could help hashimotos by reducing antibodies/inflammation.

I was trying to get a headstart on this by supplementing with vitamin D, and a b complex but yes you are probably right, i've got it the wrong way around

Vitamin D mouth spray by Better You is is good as avoids poor gut function so recommended with Hashimoto's and presumably might be less likely to irritate bladder as it avoids gut

Vitamin B complex. I prefer Igennus Super B complex. Full dose is two small tablets per day. You could try just one, or even just half a tablet per day

Better you also do a mouth spray B12. Or Jarrow do sublingual B12

But ideally test first

Yes I have a vitamin D spray and its the igennus super b complex I've been taking.

I have stopped both now because you are right I need to test my level first and my bladder is my first thought. It can be agony. Maybe in future I can take patches? Idk I'm a bit lost with it all. I've had enough before I've even started 🙁

Two of the issues with autoimmune disorders is that there is often low stomach acid, and/or leaky gut; so digestion and absorption can be a problem.

Yes I keep reading about leaky gut. I was hoping by going gluten free I could help with digestion in time but I don't feel that my digestion is too bad, I could be wrong

Getting thyroid hormones at correct levels, combined with gluten free and optimal vitamins

It all has to work together

List of hypothyroid symptoms - print out and tick all that apply. Take to GP appointment

thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/about_...

As your scan confirms damage to thyroid Push for 50mcg trial of Levothyroxine. (Try to not let GP only prescribe 25mcg dose )

NICE guidelines saying how to initiate and increase. Note that most patients eventually need somewhere between 100mcg and 200mcg Levothyroxine

Be aware there is not quick fix for vitamin levels especially if you are low in some. They can take time to build up.

I will order the thyroid and vitamin test on Thursday then I will know where I stand instead of worrying myself over it. I suppose I just thought the levo wouldn't work if my vitamin levels were low.
