I thought that instead of just increasing my NDT, I would increase the T3 end of things, introducing a small dose, increasing it every week to two weeks depending on the effects and begin reducing the NDT over time. The amount of NDT I take does not seem to affect my T4 levels on testing so I thought this sensible. However, I am very unnerved by the apparent reduction in availability of T3.
Also, Having sourced some Thyroid S, to replace my expensive Nature Throid, some symptoms have re-emerged ☹️ So will be trying to sort that out too. I am currently taking 3 and one quarter grains of NDT. I would like to proceed with my T3 plan, what do others think, and will I have to buy from the US if I want a reliable source.
Thank you helpful people

Just trying this myself I am adding c 6mcg T3 at night and take 2 grains ThyroidS on waking - seems to be working well after just a week. I feel much calmer and energy levels are more even. Head a tad clearer too. I am super fast to react to medicines. Thyroids is not as strong as naturethroid but I do well on it. and like you say it is more affordable.
Can I also just ask you, are you intending to continue to increase your T3? at what rate? And how low do you expect to take the Thyroid S? Stop it altogether? Thyroid S now seems to be a more reliable source of T3, but it just doesn’t seem sensible to take it only for its T3 properties.
I was advised that I might need a higher proportion of T3 than NDT provides alone and there is only one way to find out. I have the DIO2 mutation making me a poor converter of T4 to T3. I am not intending to increase the T3 if I feel better with the small addition to my NDT. I feel pretty good on NDT so cannot be far away from an ideal dose. I don’t want to do T3 only - the cost alone makes it prohibitively expensive for me, plus it sounds a lot more tricky to self medicate with T3 than with NDT. 2 grains is only 18mcg T3 so adding 6mcg sounds like plenty to me. I might reduce the NDT slightly if necessary because of having to cut up the T3, 6mcg is about as small as I can go. I just wanted to see if it made any difference. My anxiety is much improved and it has been mentioned that I seem “better” after just a week - so far so good.
It is a gene that affects how well you can remove iodine atoms from the thyroxine molecule which starts out as T4 (thyroxine with four iodines) and is broken down to T3 (Liothyronine with three iodine) and it becomes a useable form for the body it is further processed into T2 and then T1. T2 is important in energy conversion in mitochondria no one knows if T1 does anything. With your own thyroid working it just makes more T3 to compensate for the T4 being converted inefficiently but when you loose your thyroid Levothyroxine will never be enough to give you adequate T3. Hope that makes sense
