Hi all, need advise.

Got my bloods results, and doctor prescribed for me prednezole for 7days 30mg to reduce inflammation and amounts of antibodies.

My anti-thyroglobulin ab is 106.19

Anti-thyroperoxidase ab is 790.09.

I am not sure should i take the medications, at the moment I am on 75mg lThyroxin.

Previously he was against increasing the dosage now he wasn’t, so I am confused.

So your high antibodies confirm you have Hashimoto's. If in UK your GP more likely to call it autoimmune thyroid disease

We need ranges on all blood test, so just these results tell very little.

On Levothyroxine TSH often needs to be under one

FT4, need range to say if it's mid range or high

No FT3 test

Has GP suggested increase in dose of Levothyroxine?

B12 - looks low, but need range

Folate need range

Vitamin D, looks high. Need ranges. If in UK usually recommended to be around 100nmol

No ferritin test ?

What supplements are you taking?

Your antibodies are high this is Hashimoto's, (also known by medics here in UK more commonly as autoimmune thyroid disease).

About 90% of all primary hypothyroidism in Uk is due to Hashimoto's

Hashimoto's affects the gut and leads to low stomach acid and then low vitamin levels. Low vitamin levels affect Thyroid hormone working

Poor gut function can lead leaky gut (literally holes in gut wall) this can cause food intolerances. Most common by far is gluten.

According to Izabella Wentz the Thyroid Pharmacist approx 5% with Hashimoto's are coeliac, but over 80% find gluten free diet helps, sometimes significantly. Either due to direct gluten intolerance (no test available) or due to leaky gut and gluten causing molecular mimicry (see Amy Myers link)

Changing to a strictly gluten free diet may help reduce symptoms, help gut heal and slowly lower TPO antibodies

Are you on strictly gluten free diet already? If not considering trying it, as many people find it helps

Ideally ask GP for coeliac blood test first (just to rule it out)

My doctor ignores all t3 and t4 as he cares only for tth, once I asked about increasing dosage he just said you can try but it is normal for him.

He did test on my bloods for gluten, but as I had significantly reduced my intake of it I am not sure did it came false negative or am I really ok with it.

As for vit D i was very low in spring, so was prescribed high dosage. But that was one off one.

Range is from 75-225 I was told.

As for other supplements I am not taking anything..

My worst feeling is that after eating gluten food at the restaurant with zero alcohol, next day was feeling like having hangover..but the doctor just ignored it and said the test was negative. Every evening I get badly bloated, depending of what I have eaten.. trying to avoid gluten but now just got confused after results.

Im based in Ireland..

Literally thousands on here with Hashimoto’s find strictly gluten free diet helps, often significantly

It doesn’t matter if tested negative for coeliac or not

TSH is largely irrelevant on levothyroxine. Absolutely essential to test FT3 and FT4

Thanks for this. Will check maybe on medichecks for my ft3 and ft4, as I am not willing to go back to that doctor..

Should I take the steroids prednezole that he prescribed for me? 7 days by 30mg.. this sounds very scary..

Sorry I don’t know

If it’s to lower antibodies, then strictly gluten free diet often slowly lowers TPO antibodies

TG antibodies tend to lower as TSH lowers

With Hashimoto’s getting TSH as low as possible and FT4 towards top of range and FT3 at least way in range

Thanks for this, will get these tested.

Another worry I have is the steroids I was prescribed. Should I take them or not? He didn’t explain anything regards them just that it will reduce my antibodies.

Thanks for all the information, it does raise even more questions..

Would you have any more advise regards steroids I was prescribed?
