T3 is too high. This can impair concentration and memory. How long was dose stable for prior to test? And how close to test was previous dose of T3?
Improvement could be due to reduction in dose when T3 is too high OR to removal of T4. To be honest I suspect the former, as T4 will take many weeks to reduce, although you don’t give timescale. I’ve made a more detailed response to your other post.
Stable dosage: T4 stopped for 6 days prior to test. Patient's well being was already improved by that time, and continues. Measured by observation and questions. We have been married for 56 years, so are well aware of how each other feels.
T3 is the active thyroid hormone which controls the metabolism and therefore the symptoms. The Free T3 is just above the top part of the normal range.
It is a pity that you did not have a Free T3 result when taking T4 to see what the Free T3 was at that time - it could have been higher, explaining the improvement in health on stopping the T4..
I agree, but there will be an optimum amount of T3, it’s not the case that more is better. In addition to wellbeing, measurement of vital signs (heartbeat, temperature, blood pressure) can be really useful. Think it’s usually done midway between split doses. See book by Paul Robinson ‘Recovering with T3’ and associated Facebook group T3 Support - it’s not necessary to buy the book to join the group. There’s lots of expertise and experience with T3 only there, if that’s the way you’re going. It can get quite confusing and sometimes only records of vital signs point the way (because high T3 sometimes masquerades as low T3 and your well being questions may not always be enough). But good luck to you both x
That’s good news even if it doesn’t seem helpful yet. T3 onlyies use these measurements to adjust sizes of split doses, but perhaps you already know that.
Fascinating that the two tsh tests taken at the same blood draw indicate totally different things, overtreatment or not- overtreated. I always ignore mine anyway
