Hi, I was hoping someone could help with blood test interpretation. I’m on 200 Levo for 3 years now and last 6 months feel exhausted again. They wouldn’t test T3 & T4. Last blood test was 12 months ago and TSH 0.01

TSH - 1.65 range 0.27-4.20

Ferritin - 196 range 13-150

B12 - 292 range 180 - 999

Folate - 7.6 range >3

Vit D3- 83 range 50-174

Magnesium 0.79 range 0.70 - 1

Thanks for any help

If they wont test your FT4 and FT3 then you may have to do what hundreds of us here do and that is test privately. It's the only way you'll get to the bottom of it. To be on 200mcg Levo and have a TSH of 1.65 is very unusual.

As you have your vitamin and mineral results there - and I presume those are recent - why not do a Thyroid Monitoring with Medichecks which tests TSH, FT4 and FT3 and is on special offer today for £29 (normally £39) but you can only order at that price today. If you don't order today, you can get 20% off with code MED99 before the end of October.

As for these:

Ferritin - 196 range 13-150

Are you supplementing? If so then it's best to stop now that you are over range. Recommended level is half way through range. If not supplementing, it could be raised due to infection or illness, if not then keep an eye on it and if it stays high it needs investigating by your GP.

B12 - 292 range 180 - 999

This seems rather low but you don't say if it's pg/ml or pmol/L. lf it's pg/ml then an extract from the book, "Could it be B12?" by Sally M. Pacholok:

"We believe that the 'normal' serum B12 threshold needs to be raised from 200 pg/ml to at least 450 pg/ml because deficiencies begin to appear in the cerebrospinal fluid below 550".

"For brain and nervous system health and prevention of disease in older adults, serum B12 levels should be maintained near or above 1000 pg/ml."

Check for B12 deficiency signs and symptoms here, and if you have any list them to discuss with your GP and ask for testing for B12 deficiency/pernicious anaemia.

Folate - 7.6 range >3

These tests that don't have a range but a > number are rather silly in my opinion. I would class that as probably a bit low and I'd be taking a good B Complex to help raise it. But don't take a B Complex if you need further investigation into your B12 as the folic acid/folate and B12 contained in it will skew the results of any B12 tests

Vit D3- 83 range 50-174

The Vit D Council, the Vit D Society and Grassroots Health all recommend a level of 100-150nmol/L

so you might want to do something about supplementing to boost your level, especially during the winter months as we can't make Vit D naturally then and we draw on our stored Vit D. If you do supplement with D3, you also need it's important cofactors Vit K2-MK7 and magnesium.

Magnesium 0.79 range 0.70 - 1

Magnesium tests aren't that reliable, and most of us are low in magnesium. I'd be supplementing, check which form would suit you best here

Thanks for all the info - I don’t take any supplements and I checked my old blood tests going back 4 years and my Ferritin has alway been over 190 so I should pick this up with doctor, although they said no action needed on results!
