My thyroid doctor pretty much fired me today,

I’ve tried every kind of Synthroid generic brand and they all make my throat sore so he let me go back on armor but if I were to get pregnant he told me that he’s not going to go with that and he’s going to follow me he said and he doesn’t like how that Armour Thyroid goes up and down through pregnancy and it’s too dangerous and so he said he’s not willing to risk the baby and he’s not comfortable with it so I’m pretty screwed

Yup, I guess no baby for me,

I’m so down and depressed, I said

To my husband What do people like me do you just not get to have a child because of the stupid thyroid medication that they’re too scared to and risky to do it because even though they happen to have an armor for like 100 years,

I have tried I have tried so hard to be able to tolerate Synthroid,And three other generic Synthroid,

I just can’t

What the hell does he think that all of the hypos took during the 1900's before the synthetics. He's talking out of the wrong end. Jo xx

I think it’s big Pharma and has big boss that is demanding all his patients change to synthetic from armor I’m probably one of his only patient that is been so forceful I told him I really wanna baby I’ve been waiting for this for a long time but I can’t be on the synthetic because the brain fog and the swollen throat is so horrible that is the quality of life I told him you wouldn’t believe how much I want this baby but if I had to choose from synthetic or no baby I would have no baby,I said I will do what I can to find somebody that will make this happen for me

It's absolutely dreadful that you are having to choose between your thyroid and a baby. Surely that must be reported but I wouldn't know who. Thinking of you. Jo xx

The stuff about not wanting you to take armour if you are pregnant is nonsense. If you were taking synthroid you would have your dose adjusted during pregnancy. Typically as soon as you find out you are pregnant they increase the dose by 50mcg and then check your levels every month to keep your TSH under 2. It must be something very similar with Armour since, as you say, people have been taking armour for a hundred years or so. Are you in the states? If you struggle to find another doctor who is comfortable with you taking Armour you could just go it alone and get private blood tests (TSH only might be enough for some of them) every month during pregnancy, adjusting your dose to keep the TSH below 2. It's not rocket science. Doctors are just scared of being sued!

50? I was only ever given a 25mcg increase. I thought that was nhs standard stuff?

Explains a lot...

Yes I’m in that states close to Canada, if I go on Synthroid in the generic I would have to quit my job because the side effects are so bad that I couldn’t function even drive in it would be a good quality of the year,I’m from Canada though and I’m planning on if things don’t work out maybe I can get a Canadian doctor to do it since they’re not so paranoid about big Pharma and the corrupt society here in the states about being too then the mandatory Synthroid crap

I am new on this chat . I had been on Armour for 14 years and did wonderful until 3 years ago as I started having vertigo and hives until researching found Armour company had been sold and changed formula! Have been under a Endocrinologist and they only prescribe the Levothroxine and have wanted to go back on the natural desiccated thyroid as I can hardly function of it..I would research for another doctor.

How many times has this endo been pregnant while he was on NDT? He sounds frightened of something he doesn’t understand. Can you give him clinical studies showing hus fears to be baseless?

He says because the Armour Thyroid has T3 and T4 and not a lot of tea for that when you’re pregnant you need more tea for for the baby not for me is not concerned about me and the baby and if I’m just done plenty for then it’s enough for the baby but some people need the T3 like me and the T4 was too much and it was only 25 mg and I couldn’t even handle that then I went to a half of pill cut in half and it still was unbearable so if they were to rise it and raise it when I’m pregnant then I probably end up in the hospital,

Look for a NaPro Technology oriented fertility OB/GYN clinic. The doctors are typically Catholic, so the local Catholic diocese office can help you locate one. They won’t do IVF or artificial birth control, but they are typically very well versed in thyroid disease management (a common factor in infertility) and lean toward more bioidenticals rather than synthetics and would be knowledgeable on management of that approach through pregnancy.

Well I am Catholic but I live in the states I don’t think they have something like that there but I’m going to try to figure something out maybe a natural path

I am in the states too. Try calling your diocese office or if they publish a newspaper, look for advertisements there

Armour was the only medication for Hypothyroidism for decades so how does that square with what the Endo says?

Maddux123 profile image
Maddux123 in reply toMuffy

Exactly,I live in the state so I think it’s Pharma saying that from now on you’re only going to give synthetic and you don’t get anything else and it is what it is and I think he scared of something but he just won’t tell me
