Advice needed please

Hi,

My TSH is 22 and T4 is 6.8.

I’ve been taking NDT for approx 3 months and I take 2 grains/tablets per day.

What should I do to get levels right?

Thanks

What is your free t3? That's the most important measure. However, with TSH that high, you probably need a 1/4 grain increase. If you take vitamin supplement that contains biotin, your results may not be accurate. Do you feel well or not?

Hi, I feel well. GP didn’t test for free T3.

If you feel well, I would just keep things as they are.

Is this the first test you have had since taking NDT? If not have you results you can post? Your results do t look right plus when taking NDT then FT3 is really the most important one as FT4 can fall and TSH should be suppressed with FT3 being high in its range though not over. No ranges but I'm assuming FT4 is low in the range? But TSH isn't anywhere near suppressed, mines 0.01. When did you take your last medication before testing? It should be 12 hours before testing to get a meaningful FT3 reading but that still doesn't explain your high TSH.

Is your doctor aware you are taking NDT? He should have put that in the test request and ensure FT3 tested.

I hope someone else can offer suggestions as to your TSH reading.

Biotin, often in B vits, can badly skew results but I wouldn't have thought it that extreme.

I' d just looked back at your thyroid history and see you have added T3 to Levo before. Did you have any unusual readings then? If that worked well, though I don't know why you stopped, then that might indicate something not right with your NDT now.

Stopped T3 as had constant headache with it but that was a long time before starting NDT.

GP ringing soon to discuss, I hadn’t discussed with them as they were quite negative about me sourcing T3 last year.

Worried now that although I feel well NDT may not be working correctly for me?

Think youvreally need to retestcwith a FT3 result included to be certain what is happening. Recommended are private testing with Medichecks or Blue Horizon. Both have offers which may help you financially.

Susan 23, I am in the USA and my TSH level increased significantly and I found out that the NDT had been reformulated and lacked potency. Many people changed over to Armour or NP Thyroid. This was from manufacturer RLC. I went back to Synthroid. That may be the issue.
