My blood work results please advise. TSH 0.01mlu/L [range 0.40-4.50 mlU/L]

T3 4.0pg/mL [range 2.3-4.2 pg/ml]

T4 Free 1.2ng/dl [ range 0.8- 1.8ng/dl

Ferritin 14ng/mL [ range 20-288] They didn't do the others have been taking vitB for 10 weeks. I have been taking Thyroid S since the first of April as felt really bad on synthroid. Worked my way up to 1 1/2 grains and feeling well. But at the top on my test results they are saying maybe I should drop my dose down a tad because my TSH is 0. I did drop by 1/4 grain but felt better on the 1 1/2. From what I have read on here TSH of 0 is ok. Just wanted a little input on that. Thanks in advance for reply. This web site has been a god send for me. I am working with a FNP which seems to be very supportive but she was up front, that she knows nothing about thyroids, seems like she is willing to learn. Thank You All Again would be lost with out this site Gin5420

T3 4.0pg/mL [range 2.3-4.2 pg/ml] - 89% of the way through the range

T4 Free 1.2ng/dl [ range 0.8- 1.8ng/dl] - 40% of the way through the range

Ferritin 14ng/mL [ range 20-288] - below range

I'm assuming the T3 result you have is a Total T3 result, so I can't say anything very definite about it, but the fact that it is high in the range without being over the range should be perfectly okay. BUT Your Free T3 (which tells you how much actual usable T3 is available to your body's cells and is a much more useful test than Total T3) could be anywhere from over the range or quite a bit lower in the range, but there is simply no way to know.

The fact that your Free T4 is below mid-range suggests that you are not over-medicated despite having a TSH of 0.

The reason doctors believe low TSH is something to worry about is that they have been brainwashed into believing that low TSH always indicates a high risk of developing heart problems, cardiovascular disease and osteoporosis.

Some posts and papers that discuss this are :

academic.oup.com/jcem/artic...

Quote from the above link :

"Results: Cardiovascular disease, dysrhythmias, and fractures were increased in patients with a high TSH: adjusted hazards ratio, 1.95 (1.73–2.21), 1.80 (1.33–2.44), and 1.83 (1.41–2.37), respectively; and patients with a suppressed TSH: 1.37 (1.17–1.60), 1.6 (1.10–2.33), and 2.02 (1.55–2.62), respectively, when compared to patients with a TSH in the laboratory reference range. Patients with a low TSH did not have an increased risk of any of these outcomes [hazards ratio: 1.1 (0.99–1.123), 1.13 (0.88–1.47), and 1.13 (0.92–1.39), respectively]."

Your biggest problem, based on the results you've given is your below-range ferritin :

Ferritin 14ng/mL [ range 20-288] - below range

Optimal results for ferritin (a measure of your iron stores) with the reference range you have quoted would be roughly mid-range or slightly over, say, roughly 150 - 170.

Optimal results for iron-related results are given on this link :

rt3-adrenals.org/Iron_test_...

With such low ferritin there is a very good chance that you are suffering from iron-deficiency anaemia, and have low hemoglobin and/or low red blood cell count, plus your blood cells will be small.

With such low ferritin it could take you months or even years to optimise your iron with tablets. Some people never succeed. [Anecdote : I was forced to supplement my own iron with tablets and it took me 22 months to get my ferritin optimised, and despite this my serum iron and transferrin saturation were still quite a bit below optimal.] However you can get the benefits of improved iron within hours with an iron transfusion (also called intravenous iron therapy).

I'm surprised that you haven't mentioned being treated for your low iron, and you need to get this sorted out as soon as possible.

Note that ferritin alone isn't a good indicator of iron levels - see these posts for more info - I've written quite a few posts on the subject of iron :

Gin5420 in reply to humanbean

Thanks humanbean for replying to my concerns. Just got solger gentle iron in mail today and laid out beef liver for dinner tonight. I have another blood in 10 weeks so will see if I can get a free t3 tested. She is very new to thyroid issues, but seems like she is willing to learn and she listens to me , where none of the others would. When I ask for ndt they all said no no discussing anything . So I started self medicating .I am doing a lot better then I was, now I think the reason I feel a little tired is because of the iron. Thanks again Gin5420
