Hi guys, I visited my gp yesterday with my concerns of my iron defiencey(still waiting GI referral) still remaining the same low level for 5 months now, I was currently taking floravital which has been OK but a low dose iron but now I need to bring out the big guns to try and blast it up💪 he has prescribed galfer sugar free syrup as liquid is more easily digested.
Any reviews good or bad.👎👍

You are eight carbi does affect digestion and destroys vitamins and minerals but the only other alternative is ptu but this has the same affect to so was stuck between 2 evils as I have to take the meds. I'm hoping this iron will do something but at least I know referral is in pipeline and they will look at doing infusion if it does not rise with meds, looking back floravital only maintained where I was it keeping me from going any lower, it was not strong enough to rise it up.
Hi, I don’t know if this is any help but my mother had to take this for some time and found it really good plus it’s much more gentle on the GI system so no tummy or bowel problems on it either. You’re lucky it’s very expensive and a lot of GPs won’t prescribe it for that reason! It was a hospital spec who scripted it and then the Gp after that, anyway hope this helps!
Hi I had a quick google but check out, that vitamin C aids absorption of iron, ( I had previously thought it was A ). Often read that liver is great, if can eat it ( I can't so take a little in pate)
Hi there jeppy thankyou, I have been eating lambs liver on a regular basis each week since august last year but it does nothing for me but I still eat it now. I'm hoping this stronger iron will help.x
Ps. When pregnant many yrs ago I was aneamic and I took the homeopathic version of ferrum, may be worth checking out, It may have been to help absorption, hazy.?
You are right about the drugs - alternatives are Lugol's solution or iodine.
Selenium is also recommended and have just bought supplement for skin hair and nails with selenium in it. The Galfers sounds encouraging for just anaemia without celiac disease as celiac is not necessarily helped only removal of gluten from the diet to help this condition.
The drug you are taking is slowing down the iodine conversion into thyroid hormones.
Hashimotos may be treated with levothyroixine with block and replace but you have not had a firm diagnosis of Hashimotos so you are no further forward than you were 15 months ago yeh? Let's just hope removal of the drug altogether will be successful when the dose is lowered over the next few months.
Thanks g, I've had antibodies tpo tested for hashis and it was positive , its greater than 900 and 2 ultrasound tests saying chronic damage and nodules due to hashimotos, had antibody done last year, its the tsi for graves that my Endo will not test for as he says I do not need it as I have graves regardless. I have so much going on you probably got mixed up, definitely have hashis.xxx
I was reading an old post which was not updated - that's why I did not know about hashis. Must look at hashis posts who are on block and replace and see if they were helped. If you have graves as well that's unusual. Hashis is a combination of hyperthyroid and hypothyroid swings yeh? Please give me the gen so I can do some more homework.
Endo was going to put me on block and replace last October but back tracked and changed his mind, it won't be long now till off carbi, another 3 or 4 months at a even lower dose, carb does give nasty symptoms and side effects and basically its tough as you have to take it as there is nothing else apart from ptu, sane side effects for some people, I've had a patient leaflet for a good 10 months now as I changed chemists as I wanted to keep to the same brand😊
