Hi there all, its me again, I've had a problem with my iron for around 9 months now (you regulars know the story) I am waiting for my referral appt to GI as I'm celiac too and my iron levels are not budging, it could be that I had been taking floravital liquid which is only a very small dose of iron- I have been using this since January where it has done very little in rising my levels , I have regular liver for a year now and other iron boosting foods but I'm still not Popeye!!
Gp now wants me to take galfer iron liquid ferrous fumerate as he cannot get ferrous gluconate liquid to order, I I've not had any problems with gluconate as its easier to take, I'm starting to take fumerate tonight and dreading it, I cannot take anything weaker in irons as it will not rise my levels. Anyone can recommend strong iron? and had hardly any side effects?😁😁

Hi Michelle, I previously tried Floradix and Blood Builder. Both are gentle on the tummy and the system but cannot promise they would work for you if you have absorbtion problem. I could never go up from supplements myself so I know the pain. Has the GP ever mention iron IV as a tool of raising your levels? I have never heard of it myself until one GP suggested it. With only two IVs I am now stable at 80 (previously 9).
Hi Anna, I have been using floravital which is floradix in the gluten free formula but sadly it only managed to rise it up a little and then maintain where I was for months later, its not a strong elemental iron. I've recently begged gp literally for a iv but he says he would prefer it if I gave ferrous fumerate another go...yak. I see you can get gluconate in tablets but not in a high strength iron dose, can I ask did you have any side effects with the iv , as we here so many things about it.x
Hi Michelle, I thought it probably wouldn’t do much if you have trouble absorbing...
I had literally no side effects and I wish I knew about it sooner, I would have spared myself wasted time and money on supplements and injections that left a stain mark and pain in muscle. I really recommend it, my iron got boosted and now has been nicely in range (80) since April whiteout me actually doing anything about it actually (supplements don’t work with me and I’m vegan so no meant, liver). I do keep checking levels every month as don’t want to loose the result but if it drops it will be another IV. Perhaps with putting a bit of a fight with a GP over this one? Its worth it ☺️
Hi Anna you have made so much sense, I'm celiac too and at that age where my periods are horrendous, I know you are right about iv, you have inspired me to keep up the fight and up the game a little, I'm on to this, I've made appt to see gp again for next week!!
