Symptoms - Do they come and go?

I've been dealing with several symptoms over the past 9 months and consistently they come and go. I recently was diagnosed with having low T3 and was told that was Hypothyroidism. So I'm just wondering if anyone else has the same thing either in the beginning of taking any medicine or still?

My main symptom is the heart palpitations (skipped beats). One morning I wake up before coffee or anything and I feel them. The next day I wake up and I'm totally fine. Sometimes when I eat I get them. Other times, I don't. It is so hard to track!

My other symptoms is a cough. I've had this odd dry cough with sputum every morning and through out the day. That has been fairly consistent except for it did go away and come back several months ago.

Other symptoms are mainly achy joints. I thought I would be over weight if I had Hypothyroidism but I'm actually doing well at 146 pounds and 5'8". I should also mention that I'm only 41 and this all really started after my first born.

As a reference point (although posted this recently) here are my numbers:

August test results...

Free T4: 1.3 ng/dL (range: 0.8-1.8)

TSH: 1.27 mIu/L (range: 0.40-4.5)

Free T3: 2.5 pg/ml (range: 2.3-4.2)

May tests/ about two months ago (different doc)

Total T3: 88 ng/dL (range: 87-196)

Free T4: 1.5 ng/dL (range: 0.9-1.7)

TSH: 3.86 after miscarriage (range: 0.34-5.60)

March tests:

TSH: 1.88 (range: 0.34-5.60)

Other recent test:

July test - B12: 1,353 pg/mL (range: 232-946) High

August test - B12: 1,281 pg/mL (range: 232-946) High but slight decrease in one month.

Folate: >19.9 ng/mL (range: >=4.0 ng/mL)

Vitamin D: 37 ng/mL (range: 20-80)

MCV: 102.8 fL (range: 82-100) High

Thyroid antibodies tests came back negative.

Thanks for your advice!

On a side note - is there a good app where I can track these results better or should I just make my own spreadsheet?

Symptoms can fluctate when autoimmune thyroid disease is present - Hashimoto's. Have you had thyroid antibodies tested. Thyroid Peroxidase and Thyroglobulin for Hashimoto's.

I put all my results on a spreadsheet, along with dose of meds and notes about how I feel.

Thank you. I was tested for Thyroglobulin Antibodies and Thyroid Peroxidase Antibodies. Both came back negative. I was told that was all good news.

Why are your B12 levels so high? Do you supplement?

I wish I knew. I don't supplement until recently I was told to take a B Complex. I haven't had my B12 checked since I started the B Complex.

When did you start taking the B complex - before this test? How much B12 is in the B Complex? I’m asking because high B12 when you aren’t supplementing can sometimes indicate liver problems. If the dosage of B12 in your B Complex isn’t very high, it might be worth asking your doctor to do some liver function tests, just to check that every thing is as it should be.

I started B Complex just this past week. I had the test for Methymalonic Acid and Ferritin done recently too. Both were fine.

Methymalonc: 182mmol/L (range >= 400)

Ferritin: 147 (range 30-424)

Then it is actually quite unusual for your B12 to be elevated - unless you’re eating loads of liver and pate. :) Seriously, see an M.D., explain that your B12 is high even though you don’t supplement and ask for your liver function to be tested. I don’t want to worry you unduly but there might be an issue there. It’s one of those things which isn’t as widely known as it should be.

Thanks. I appreciate your advise. Is there a name for a liver function test? Also, I’ve asked about five doctors now and they all said that I have nothing to worry about. If I knew the exact testing name, that’s easier to request.

They call them LFTs - liver function tests. They should know what to test. Like I said, it’s not as well known as it should be that high B12 is indicative of liver problems (and sometimes kidney/blood disorders). Hopefully all will be well but it would be good to be sure. Hope you find a helpful doctor. x
