Hi, so ever since I've been ill I get weak legs and arms sometimes..I get pins and needles some of the time, but mostly feel weak. My b12 etc etc are great now..so it's not that.
Does hypothyroidism cause this? I've been told it wouldn't be that..I'm fed up..
I get got a lot too..
Thanks

I have had painful, weak and tingling arms and legs for years ( been diabetic and hypothyroid for even longer 12 plus years)... had lots of tests, scans, physiotherapy, acupuncture etc and finally diagnosed with fibromyalgia. But having spent 24/7 on the sofa last winter hardly able to move, did lots of research and came across Dr Lowe's archive and Q&As on Thyroid Uk website: he believed fibromyalgia, and some of the symptoms you describe, are due to undertreated hypothyroidism. So followed his advice, with help from this forum, improved and maintained my Vit D, B12, folate and ferritin to optimum levels, upped my levothyroxin ( discovered that my TSH had gone up a lot over last few years without doctor changing my levothyroxin dose), and confirmed that my T4 had never convertedly properly, so added T3. Much better, I am walking, tingling has gone, though some weakness and exhaustion still. So suggest you try full thyroid approach too. If necessary get private blood tests for full thyroid with FT3, mins/ vits, and post here.
Hi, thank you my ft4 is med to high, but ft3 isn't too great, to say how high ft4 is..but drs aren't bothered at all. I'm 26, I've just been put on beta blockers..I just seem to have episodes of tachycardia...but I've just read that they can slow the rate of conversion from t4-3..
Yes beta blockers not good for good thyroid health as reduce metabolism when that is where our problems lay. Might be worth while getting a full thyroid blood test with vit D, b12, folate, ferritin and 2 thyroid autoimmune antibodies too from Medichecks or Blue Horizon labs. Have special offers on Thursday, can get tests for £79 - yes expensive but quick and doctor's can take months / years to test even part of these tests. Post on this forum for excellent advice.
Bit d is now brilliant, b12 is ok, I'm making it better, ferritin and folate were awful but working on it. Tpo antibodies are present....Having my tsh, ft3/4 done tomorrow. I can't afford anything at the mo, I'm down to sick pay and I'm getting married in less than a month! :s
It Is unusual for NHS to do FT3 etc..so perhaps that will do for the moment. Hope you are having bloods as early as possible to get TSH, best fast etc before hand. Post all your results on forum for advice...
Strength And Sympathy for You . Your Dr is giving you beta blockers for WHAT ? They should be giving you some T3/NDT to add to your T4 . Or better yet lower your T4 and add some T3/NDT . Please run don't walk from this Dr and do yourself a favor try to find a Dr who understands how to dose you with T3 and T4 .For your tachycardia You need T3 /NDT Not beta blockers . I don't know if you have been tested with Ferritin your Iron might be low . B-12 /Folate , Vitamin"D" /K2 You need magnesium , Fish Oil .
Hey my b12 wasn't bad, mid range, ferritin and folate low..so working on that. Vit D very bad..but got it up over 100 now. Magnesium was alright..I'm surprised, this Dr has hypothyroidism himself...but whenever I mention ft3, he isn't bothered...no one's bothered but to say how high my ft4 is...my ft3 isn't great..
Personally a Dr that has this attitude is not a Dr you and I want to see nor anyone else for that matter . But I would very much advice you to ask for copies of all your lab results . Write on each one the dose you where on at the time of that particular lab results . Learn your lab range results . Journaling symptoms are very important . They are very telling . Symptoms are cellular and labs are serum results . If your Dr has himself thyroid issues he Most Definitely know Better . Your Dr doesn't bother with T3/NDT because He Does Not Know HOW To . I would advice him and Invite Him to Please come and Join our Forum He might just learn a few things about T3/NDT and be convinced .
Hey, yep I always ask for print outs of my bloods. I'm screwed; the consultant at my local hospital said there's nothing wrong, said I have depression; I don't..and a guy I paid private for said I have subclinical..which I don't...I have, as my GP put it, a lot of autoimmune issues there. The one I paid private for works for a trust, who I've just read does not allow practitioners to prescribe t3...so I'm stuck
T4 in high doses effect the heart and bone density. How much T4 is a high dose depends on who you ask. My calculation would be if 125mcg is max for your weight then id assume then that would be considered a high dose.
Hi, Michaela, I don’t offer a solution but I can commiserate..... I was ‘diagnosed’ by my GP and Endo with hyperthyroidism (suspected graves) but negative antibodies and no obvious goitre. Long story but bloods actually recently suggested I’m now hypo. All symptoms support this. (Awaiting my test kit as couldn’t get GP to test T3 or Hashimoto’s antibodies).
However, one of my first symptoms that has only marginally improved was muscle weakness in my legs - to the point that my knees (and ankles) would just give way. Im a horse rider and before this my legs were really strong with good muscle tone - so this is a real problem for me. I still have issues if I’m required to climb steps and it’s worse going up than down. I was told this is caused by excessive thyroid production but I’ve never heard of it before or since.
I do get pins and needles a lot and my hands are often affected but this seems to be unrelated.
Sorry I’ve not been much help but I do Hope you’re able to resolve the problem soon.
Hi thank you, I hope you get sorted soon! I just feel like doctors just end up ignoring your symptoms, because they aren't text book hypothyroidism....I used to do pole fitness but as I'm off work I can't..I tried doing a pull up on a bar, I can't even do one
Hey so, I'm on folic acid 5mg once a day, ferrous fumarate 210mg twice a day. I was on a high dose vitamin D, now my levels are amazing; over a 100. B12, im not prescribed any (Dr said it was fine, but it could be higher..wasn't even mid range) but I'm taking a spray every day.
My ft4 was high (but as Dr said, I might have been running high for years...which is what I said from the start), ft3 wasn't very high at all..to say how high my ft4 was.
I'm at doctors on Mon and I will be getting more blood results then (ft3/4, tsh, b12, ferritin and folate) had bloods taken today.
Supplementing a good quality daily vitamin B complex (eg Igennus Super B complex or Jarrow B-right) plus possibly a sublingual B12 as well
If you are taking vitamin B complex, or any supplements containing biotin, remember to stop these 3-5 days before any blood tests, as biotin can falsely affect test results
