So, I was recently told I have hyperthyroidism, and I am taking 20g Carbimazole. I have just found out it’s not graves, but I need to be tested for nodules?
If they turn out to be non-cancerous, what are the treatments? I like going to the gym and really want to avoid any kind of surgery or thyroid removal if possible?

Hi there oopsy I was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism and graves and hashimotos last summer, I have several well defined nodules and t chronic thyroid damage, I still have my nodules at present as 9 times out of ten they will leave them, they will only take them out if they are causing problems to you like swallowing, choking, breathless, I am currently trying to get mine removed as I've had all the above symptoms with mine, nodules can also shrink too according to where your thyroid levels are.
Please be careful with being hyper as your body is under a lot of pressure particularly your heart, going to the gym, maybe a little to much at present, especially if you do have tremors, breathless, heart palps, shaking etc, I had the whole shaabang and still a year later not at work as like many people on here its been a rollercoaster of probs, I hope you are one of those people who recover quickly and the carbi works great, but please be very cautious with working out as the heart is already pushed to uthe limit. Good luck.
Thank you Rmichelle. I have felt better since taking Carbimazole and my doctor said I could go to the gym but I don’t feel happy so I’m not going at the moment.
I’m hoping any thyroid nodules will just go away on their own but maybe I’m just trying to stay overly positive!
I don’t think people realise how much thyroid problems affect us.
I hope you feel better if they manage to take them out x
Thyroid disease is such a rollercoaster of a ride, up and down all the time, I'm glad you are feeling better but we have to remain positive and hope it does get better, I am 12 months into my meds and have had continuos problems and lots of dose changes, I wish you luck and good health and remember to test your bloods every 4 weeks as things can change very quickly.☺
Yes carbi can make you feel very nauseous, it takes around 6-8 weeks for the body to adjust to carbi and feel a slight bit of difference, good or bad!! It is a long hard fight with your body, did your gp also tell you about the side affect of carbi... If you get a really bad sore throat and feel unwell you must get a urgent blood test to test your white blood cell count as carbi is known to lower your white blood cells and is linked to problems with the liver- this is not meant to scaremonger you but it needs to be known if you are taking the meds. Be sure on every blood test you include a full blood count to check your white cell production, basic knowledge.
Hope you feel better soon but nothing with the thyroid happens quickly its very slow moving but you will get there. Good luck.🌟🌟
I understand, you will get past that crying stage honestly, it will take time but remember it won't happen quickly. There will be lots of changes good and bad and a lot of dose changes too to try and balance you out, thankyou with regards to the nodules but at the moment its been a long hard fight a year later. Good luck and educate yourself on the thyroid from this site as you will need as much info as possible for when you see your Endo.
The site is for people with Graves' Disease but it has lots of information that is generic to thyroid problems of various kinds. For example, you could search the site for "nodules" and see what comes up.
I've never had nodules or hyperthyroidism so can't be of practical help, sorry.
