Happy Friday folks, hope you can offer your wisdom....give me good news and success stories...
I started 1 grain of Nature-Throid last week after 6mths on levothyroxine. Was on 50mcg of levo, should have been on 75mcg but just couldn’t tolerate it. I know it’s a tiny amount but I had lots of problems on it, so I made an informed decision to switch to NDT.
After 7 days on Nature-Throid, the awful muscle pains and palpitations have improved. I’ve had a day where the brain fog lifted and felt like me again 🙂 I am feeling hopeful and actually quite empowered to be going DIY with this 👊🏻 BUT I have lost loads more hair in the last week ☹️ My ferritin/iron/vit D/B12 are all good.
Also, the levo/hypo coldness is back.
Do I need to increase my NDT now? It’s only been a week. I was planning to increase it by half a grain in a couple of weeks, do I hold out for longer? Have ordered a testing kit from Medichecks so should I wait until I’ve done those?
Is the hair loss thing normal after starting NDT? I know I need to get optimal and this could take months.

I wouldn't increase yet but I will give you three Chapters from one of our Advisers who was an expert in thyroid hormone resistance. He also would only prescribe NDT or T3 never levothyroxine.
Copy and paste the following tinyurls onto a new page and read carefully.
Am on ndt -have been for about 10yrs. I think the transition across is quite tricky initially. Stopthethyroidmadness has helpful info on this so worth a nosey. Whats always suggested is that you can take the equivalent dose of levothyroxine in ndt.
What ndt are you on? Most contain for each grain 38mcg of levo & 8 or 9 mcg of T3. T3 is roughy 3xs the strength of T4. So 1 grain is actually roughly the equivalent of 65mcg of levothyroxine.
So youve effectively had a slight increase. 😊
Its best not to raise too quickly as it takes 6-8 weeks for the body to adjust & get the full effect.
I think whats happened is youve probably felt a bit better so you have done more. Unfortunately your body couldnt take the little bit of extra demand just yet so you now feel tired again.
You probably will need an increase but I wouldnt just yet.
According to that chart your one grain is the equivalent of 100mcg of levothyroxine. So I would definately hold your horse on any increase. Stagger it up in small increases every 6-8 weeks doing blood tests before each increase to check TSH, ft4 & ft3.
Hi Angie, I have been on NDT for a little over 2 months now. I feel much better. I increased my dose by 1/4 grain every 2 weeks till I reached a point where I felt well. At the end of this month I will get my levels checked, it will be 6 weeks since my last dose increase. Today I went for a short cycle ride, I didn't push it too hard and my legs were like jelly but I did it, it has been 10 years since I was last able to ride my bike. Good luck.
