TSH has risen on NDT

I've been on 1 grain (on average) NDT for two months.

When I first started out my TSH had dropped from 10-5 on Levo 50mg/75mg. Sorry don't have the ranges - costs me £100 to get the rest of the information as private :-(

I am on Nature Throid . I don't particularly any symptoms!

Eugh - is it time for an increase?

Helena877,

The Data Protection Act entitles patients to their test results and ranges. If your consultant wants to charge you for accessing your results and ranges in addition to the consultation fee you are charged you might consider consulting someone less rapacious.

TSH rises when insufficient T4 and T3 is detected. If TSH has risen you need a dose increase. As you are seeing someone privately why don't you insist on FT4 and FT3 being tested along with TSH? TSH testing is not a good indicator of whether NDT is adequate, you really need to know your FT3 level too.

Yes - he has taken FT3 and FT4. I got the test result as they added it on to some hormone blood work my GP did last week.

Unfortunately it is an appointment that is required (£100) to go through the results but obviously as I definitely need an increase I don't mind paying that as it means more medicine rather than turning up for nothing!

Thank you

Helena877,

I repeat, The Data Protection Act entitles you to your results and ranges. You should not have to pay £100 for a consultation to get your results. Email your consultant and tell him you are making a subject access request for your recent results and ranges. He should provide them within 40 days of your request.

Why not order your own labs and then decide whether or not to book a consultation to discuss them.

I agree exactly with you!

GPs surgery have done me a printout for last week's test. They are waiting for me at reception.

It's just with the private doctor I feel like he's doing me a favour prescribing and it was agreed that I would do my blood tests via him so as to not get the GP involved. GP did the TSH as an add on to a blood hormone panel so I just thought may as well get another one.

I do need another appointment with the private doctor though to get an increase in NDT so I will make sure I have all outstanding results then.

Yep - really conscious how everybody makes money in the game so I do the bare minimum.

Helena877,

You can order your own labs without involving your GP or your consultant. I would demand the results and ranges you have already paid for and tell the consultant you expect them on request in future and will book a consultation if you require him to interpret them but otherwise you don't expect to pay £100 for results which can be emailed to you.
