Addison’s Blood Test

I have my blood test next week and I’ve stopped taking ashwagandha but wondered if I can still take other vitamins and supplements.

I want accurate results without anything interfering. So wanted to check if I could still take B12, CoQ10, aspirin and Aciclovir as these are my key daily tablets I find the most beneficial, the rest I can wait until after the test to restart.

You should be ok on vitamins, the other drugs that can affect the results are the pill & HRT.

I came off the mini pill a week ago hopefully that might help

Once you've started taking B12 then testing it is not very helpful. It takes months or years to find a "background" or "underlying" level of B12.

What other blood tests are being done?

Sorry, I hadn't noticed the title of the post.

To find out which supplements and meds affect cortisol (either by lowering it or by raising it - unfortunately readers have to find out which is which!) see these lists :

Another document you may find helpful :

imperialendo.co.uk/Bible201...

Search the document for the word "Addison" and read up on preparation, timing, what to expect, and interpretation of results for each test that mentions it, or the specific test you are having if you know what it is.

From the nhs website I think they check cortisol sodium and potassium

Is it your GP who is doing the test? Or are you having it done under the auspices of an endocrinology department?

My GP as I requested it before I consider sertaline in case it’s my adrenals causing me issues with not coping with any stress. My Endo discharged me for self medicating

Well, your GP could always refer you to a different endo - one with a brain and a heart.

If your GP is doing the cortisol testing then it will be a single serum cortisol test. The sodium and potassium are not "special", they are frequently done as part of general health check-ups, but they can be affected by kidney health. Also the adrenal glands sit on top of the kidneys, so whether this is what is going through your GPs mind, who knows.

Is the blood testing being done as early in the morning as possible - between 8am and 9am?

Can’t search for Addison’s and can’t find anything under the contents

What kind of gadget are you using? Can it display PDF files? If you can't then try this link instead :

imperialendo.co.uk/Bible201...

It isn't a PDF file, it's an incredibly long single internet page.

Not what you're looking for?
