Diagnosed with Hashimotos

Hi,

My new doctor diagnosed me with Hashimotos. In my first appointment with her, she looked at my previous labs and believed I was misdiagnosed years ago with Graves. After getting my lab work done, it was confirmed that I have Hashimotos.

Here are my current labs:

T4: 1.28 (.82-1.77)

TSH: 2.1 (.45-4.5)

T3: 68 (71-180)

B12: 1177 (232-1245)

Folate 17.9 (>3.0)

Ferritin: 97 (30-400)

Vitamin D: 34.1 (30-100)

I’m looking to try adding T3 in the evening with my Levo and see if that would help. I’m not sure what dosage to start at. I read on here someone else took their T3 in the evening and it worked well for them. I currently take 112mcg of Levothyroxine in the evening before bed. I’m so tired most of the time. I appreciate the input.

I'm afraid that particular misdiagnosis happens all the time! Doctor just cannot get their heads round the difference between Hashi's and Grave's.

But, did you have your Grave's antibodies tested at the time of diagnosis - TRAB or TSI?

I'm not at all sure you need to take T3. Firstly, you are under-medicated on levo. Your TSH is too high, and should be 1 or under. And your FT4 is just under mid-range. You need an increase in dose.

Unfortunately, we can't tell about the T3 because that is the wrong test. You need the FT3 tested, that is the TT3. You cannot make the comparison with FT4 to show the conversion rate.

Your B12 and folate are fine, but your ferritin is a bit low, and your vit D is much too low. So, those need supplementing. :)

Thank you for the reply. In regards to the Graves, I’m not sure what was tested since it was so long ago.

Bummer. All I have is the T3 test on my labs.

I’m on 112mcg. Is there a dose increase you would recommend?

For the ferritin, I’m guessing I should add some liver to my diet?

For the Vit D, supplementing makes me feel awful. I’m not sure where to go with that since I’ve tried so many and none of them react well with me.

You should only increase levo by 25 mcg every six weeks. No more.

Liver would probably be good, but only once a week.

When you've tried taking vit d before, have you also taken vit K2 - MK7 and magnesium with it?

Ok. Thank you. I have with the K2-MK7, but not with magnesium.

Magnesium is very, very important. :)

I found my FT3 on my labs. I overlooked it. It is 2.05 (2.0-4.9)

OK, so that is very low. If I were you, I'd start with 6.25 mcg T3 - take it whenever is convenient for you, as low as it's on an empty stomach - and increase by 6.25 mcg every two weeks until you reach 25 mcg. Then hold for six weeks and retest. :)
