LATEST BLOODS

TSH 5.34 0.3 - 4.7

FT3 3.5 3.5 - 6.5

FT4 17.6 9.5 - 21.5

What would make FT3 at the bottom of the range when FT4 is ok.

I had a total thyroidectomy 23 years ago and FT3 normally higher.

Could there by a conversion problem.

Are you on any Levothyroxin etc? You TSH is high, usually don't comment on T4 conversion level till it is down to 1 or under. Have you had your VitD, B12, folate, ferritin tested...levels need to be in upper end of range for good thyroid health including conversion? Selenium( selenomethionine) 200 mcg good supplement for improving conversion.

Yes on levo endo just increased from 100 to 125 Other levels ferritin etc in range but I feel very hypo at the moment and wondered if it were something to do with borderline T3

Think you will have to wait 6 weeks to see if figures shift..TSH too high needs to be 1 or below, but your FT4 might go out of range. Remember ' in range' is not necessarily good enough for VitD, B12, folate and ferritin... need to be in upper part; have you got results to post with ranges? You might need to add T3, but as yet not got results to support this idea.

You feel very hypo at the moment because you are very undermedicated. Your endo has done the right thing in increasing your dose, and you may need further increases.

Your TSH is over 1range and your FT4 just a little over half way.

The aim of a treated hypo patient generally is for TSH to be 1 or lower with FT4 and FT3 in the upper part of their ranges if that is where you feel well.

So you need enough Levo to get your TSH down to 1 then you can see how well you convert.

For thyroid hormone to work properly our vitamins and minerals need to be optimal. Are yours? The levels needed are

Vit D - 100-150nmol

Serum B12 - minimum 550, best top of range

Folate - at least half way through range

Ferritin - half way through the range
