I suggest you look at the nutiritional data for blackstrap molasses. For example:

Each tablespoonful (20 grams) is 5% of daily carbohydrate allowance. Iron content 0.9 milligram.
It always looks to me as if the refiners who produce blackstrap molasses have put a lot of effort into promotong them as a health food.
For some lactoferrin does the trick as the problem can be low ferritin production which makes serum iron increase but ferritin remain lowish.
