BLACK SEED OIL!!??

Black seed oil sounds pretty amazing...I read an article claiming it can regenerate thyroid tissue and decrease tsh. Has anyone tried black seed oil and have hard evidence that it's working ...or should I save my money. Also, which would be better absorbed, oil or capsules? I asked my pharmacist if it's safe for me to take and he said ye :)

Thanks!

I think a claim to regenerate thyroid tissue might be taking things a bit too far. Yes, I've heard that it can reduce TSH, but what's the point of that? It doesn't make you less hypo. Just less likely to get diagnosed/dose increased.

Black cumin seed comes up as a topic on here over and over again. Type black cumin into the search window and loads of threads will appear. But, I don't think I've ever heard anyone say they've had good results with it themselves.

I don't think it just reduces tsh on its own without increasing thyroid function. Thanks. I think I'm gonna give it a go, but only after I've had some more bloods done.

Well, actually, in some articles it says just that: reduces TSH but has no effect on FT4 or FT3.

Let us know how you get on. :)

ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articl... there's this study, but unfortunately it only had 40 participants. There's a couple on rats which basically said the same thing, including that thymoquinone helps memory and cardiac issues in rats with hypothyroidism.

I sure will :) I'll be Guinea pig lol.

Well, admittedly, on the face of it, that does sound encouraging. However, as you said, not enough participants, and not studied for long enough. Also, the trouble with Hashi's is that it's a degenerative disease. How would the nigella continue to help as the thyroid was slowly destroyed? It would need to be studied for much longer than 8 weeks to have any idea about that.

Oh definitely, let's hope more studies are done. I think the author of the piece I read initially, saying it helps with the growth of normal thyroid tissue, read the article wrong, or didn't quite get what vascular endothelial growth factor was, in a way portraying it in a positive light.

I read that black seed oil is anti-inflammatory, so let's hope it would slow down the rate of which my thyroid gets destroyed. I strictly do not eat soy and gluten (except from the other day by accident, my god I paid for that!), and am aiming for a 100% paleo lifestyle when I've got cooking down to a t. I feel that's definitely helping.

I believe the thyroid is not considered to be a regenerative gland.

Me neither but maybe someone knows something we don't :P thanks.

Allegedly the Prophet Muhammed said that it cured every disease but death! Also mentioned in the Old Testament .

FDA has warned against one product Black Gold X .

There is a Bradford company that produces a range of products.

Thanks. I ordered some off eBay and they seemed knowledgeable.

I tried searching on PubMed for published scientific research on the topic. "Black cumin seed" returned some articles, but none related to the thyroid.

Google scholar came up with a couple, unfortunately I can't remember the name of those who conducted the study. They were all post 2015 if that helps. Thanks. There was one I remember who had positive results, but the cohort size wasn't great.
