I've recently been diagnosed with hypothyroidism and have decided to take a natural medication Nature-throid. I will start taking it Mon as I'm currently treating a chest infection with steroids and antibiotics. I would be grateful if anyone could give me feedback on the effectiveness of this medication if you are taking it to treat your thyroid issue?
Thank you

I have been taking Nature Throid for nearly two years, as Levothyroxine made me really ill and I am not a good converter from T4 to T3. I tolerate the natural hormones much better than the synthetic ones and of course have the advantage of the addition of T3 in the mix. I take 1.5 grains, the equivalent of 125 mcg of Levo, all at one in the morning. Some people feel better if they split the dose during the day as T3 is short lived.
However, the price has recently gone up, and there is usually an import duty tax to pay as it comes from the States, so I am going to swap over to a much cheaper Thai brand and see how that works.
Have you researched about dosing? Here are a couple of links which explain:
My dose is 1 × 65mg each morning. It cost €50 for 100 tabs. I woyld be unterestex to know more regarding the cheaper Thai brand? And also how you feel they work for you.
I'm referring to a natural hormone opposed to a synthetic hormone. I said I'd try this option first and if it's ineffective, I'll try other options. What do you take?
Levothyroxine -T4 (always same brand - Mercury Pharma) and small dose of Liothyronine -T3 (always same brand- Morningside Healthcare)
If you have Hashimoto's also called autoimmune thyroid disease diagnosed by high thyroid antibodies, sometimes NDT can increase antibodies. So it's helpful to test antibodies before starting
I'm waiting on the results for the antibodies test but the doctor prescribed Nature-throid based on the other blood results. This all seems so complex and individual. I'm slowly finding my way forward and find this site is very informative.
I joined a thyroid support group on Facebook and followed a post on reputable thyroid doctors in Ireland. Many of them took a holistic approach with an open mind to prescribing Armour Thyroid or Nature-throid and some solely prescribing same. (edited by Admin).
That's great news that you have sympathetic/knowledgeable doctors. I have had to remove doctor's name as it is against the guidelines to put doctors names on the open forum.
The reason we do not state names is to protect doctors who prescribe other than levo as we've had quite a number of doctors pursued (I believe also have had licence affected/withdrawn) because they've prescribed other than levothyroxine or who have prescribed due to clinical symptoms rather than a blood test.
One brilliant doctor appeared so many times before the GMC as if he was a criminal and it certainly wasn't his patients as 10,000 testimonials were sent to the GMC stating their lives had been saved. This doctor died of a stroke which many believe was due to the strain. One of the doctor's admirers did a calculation of the odds of appearing before the GMC so often and it was 10 million to 1.
Doctors who treated due to clinical symptoms have retired long ago now and 'modern' ones only treat the results on a piece of paper regardless of patient's symptoms. Rarely are the frees tested either but are given other prescriptions for the remaining symptoms.
There's actually no other reason to take it. But it doesn't 'treat' anything in the sense of making it better/curing it. It is thyroid hormone replacement. And like all forms of thyroid hormone replacement, what suits one won't suit another. It's a highly personal thing.
It is 'effective' in that it contains the hormones T4 and T3, but whether the formulation of the tablet will suit you, you will only know by trying it. It didn't suit me - and therefore was not effective - but it suits thousands of other hypos.
It's all trial and error, yes! I moved heaven and earth to get hold of Armour, in the firm belief that it would save my life! It didn't. But, I couldn't have known that, I had to try it.
But, you'll stand a better chance of getting on with NDT if your nutrients are optimal. Have you had your vit D, vit B12, folate and ferritin tested?
You should also be taking vit K2 - MK7. Taking vit d increases your absorption of calcium from food, the K2 makes sure it goes into the bones and teeth, and doesn't build up in the soft tissues.
I cannot tell you if probiotics would help. You would have to try them for yourself and find out. Having a stronger immunity won't make any difference to Hashi's, but probiotics could help in other ways.
