I started taking selenium and vit E at the same time as my morning thyroxine dose (all together )
I feel much better with the selenium but I’m wondering are you supposed to spread them out? Can it affect thyroxine absorption of you take it together?

I would recommend taking your hormones min. 2 hours away from any meal or any other medicine, give them an after ingestion window of one hour to any meal/beverage (except water) and minimum 2 hours to other medicine (including vitamins/minerals)
Hi thanks... I do all that but I was asking specifically about selenium and vit E as they are supposed to work with thyroxine to make it work more efficiently ?
Hence why I take it together but was wondering if I still needed to space it out.
I hadn't heard about selenium and Vit E but will def try it. I've been on thyroxine for 25 years and didn't know anything about taking on an empty stomach and then only water for an hour. Why doesn't everyone know about this I wonder?
I think I see the same advice nearly every day so it’s ingrained now.
Selenium helps with hashimotos and antibodies apparently, and it is needed for normal thyroid function and to ‘mop up’ hydrogen peroxide and byproducts of thyroid process, works like an antioxidant I believe. Vit E is needed to absorb selenium properly hence they go together.
Also with regards to blood tests- always take bloods in mornings in emtpy stomach with the last thyroxine dose 24 hours before the test. This gives highest tsh result and your dose doesn’t affect the result. Take thyroid dose straight after bloods.
Me too never been told to take on empty stomach always took about 10 ish after breakfast and also didn’t know can take vitamins as come off hrt as had to , bought lots vitamins from Holland barratt then told couldn’t take coS of soya and idodine in them so confusing and feel tired all time as now on nothing xxxhas anyone else stopped hrt who has under active thyroid and feel worse and is there certain foods that make worse I notice if eat certain things feels so tired
Yes if you search the forum (search box) you will find lots of advice on vitamins and minerals. And yes supposed to take them all at least 4 hours away from thyroxine. If you take after a meal I believe it should be 2 hours after eating.
You can take thyroxine at night also as slow dragon says. Just be consistent with time of day whenever you do it.
When coming off hormonal meds a lot of people are folate and vit b12 deficient. It may be worth having these checked by your doctor. Also iron/ferritin and vit D.
I’ve had massive benefit from taking these supplements but they often need high doses then are available in multivitamins so I supplement separately.
If you write a new post with your thyroid dose and results and any tests you’ve had then people can help you figure out why you feel so bad.
Also people with hashis tend to have multiple food sensitivities
I agree with the other answers take your thyroxine as early in the morning as you can on it’s own. Never take thyroxine and antibiotics at the same time I did once and had palpitations. Wait at least 1 - 2 hours before you eat if you can.
Lots of things can affect your thyroxine best to check with pharmacist before you take anything new.
Hi Saya85 according to my endocrinologist it is best to take thyroxine on it’s own at least an hour before you take any other medication as it absorbs better in your system
