Are there any supplements that shouldn't be taken at the same time? I take B12, B complex, D3, K2, magnesium, selenium + zinc, Vit c, ferrous fumerate, Bio kult. Not all daily, but I probably should do, I'm just unsure if you can take them altogether.

Do you take supplements altogether?
Diyena,
Ferrous Fumarate and vitC should be taken together but check the FF patient information leaflet to see whether it should be taken away from food.
Most other supplements should be taken with food and can be taken together as far as I'm aware.
Iron and vitamin D should be taken 4 hours away from Levothyroxine.

Diyena I've read that generally it should be vitamins in the morning and minerals in the evening. Obviously with iron, depending on how many doses are needed you need to take it when you can.
B vits tend to energise us so take in the morning. If you take more than the Vit C that is necessary with iron, divided doses through the day is recommended as it doesn't stay in our bodies long. I've read to take K2 at a different time of day to the D3 (both need to be taken with dietary fat).
My practioner recommends taking probiotics half an hour before breakfast.
Magnesium I take in the evening as it is supposed to relax you and it can aid sleep.
Does anyone know why we need to take D3 and K2 at separate times please. I have been taking them together for a year, I presumed they had a relationship like iron and vit c.
K2-mk7 is a co-factor of D3 but they don't have the same sort of relationship as iron and Vit C. Iron needs Vit C to be taken at the same time to aid absorption. D3 needs fat to be absorbed.
Both D3 and K2 are fat soluble so should be taken with dietary fat, and they would compete for the fat if taken at the same time. However to overcome this I buy both in softgel form which contain olive oil to aid absorption. As they both have some fat within the softgel I take mine at the same time with the fattest meal of the day, or a full fat yogurt.
If you had D3 and/or K2 in tablet or capsule form there would be no added fat so they would need all the dietary fat they can get to be absorbed and taking them separately would be more sensible.
Iron, ferrous fumerate, is the one that is most problematic.
It interacts with lots of medication including levo, either itself or other supplements have greatly reduced absorption if taken in combination with it e.g. calcium, zinc, is made inactive by some food and drink due to calcium and tannins e.g. milk, coffee, tea plus it can cause constipation or diarrhoea.
I've been told, was taught and even researched that to avoid taking iron tablets with anything else apart from vitamin C, which is suppose to aid it's absorption, unless you have to. In the case of levo or other thyroid medication you need to take iron tablets 4 hours away from it and in the case of other food and drink take it 2 hours away.
If it does cause you bowel/stomach issues then you are suppose to try taking last thing at night to see if the side effects are reduced, and if that doesn't work with a meal that doesn't contain calcium or tannins.
Thanks for the advice, I take my Levo at night so tend to take all my vitamins first thing, I'll save the iron, vitC for lunchtime in that case.
Apparently you should take D3 and K2 apart from each other for best effect.
Oh, I'd always taken them together as I was told you needed K2 to help the D3. Surely someone has a simple diary of when to take what when 😏
Hi, what about the D3 and K2 combination vitamins? I don't take them but my daughter does. x Any ideas?
Apparently, not useful, but I can't find the article at the moment. Of course, the makes of the supplements can probably prove the opposite. So hard to tell, really.
precisionnutrition.com/stop... I've just found this and it's quite good for info. I was supplemented with Adcal by my GP, I discovered that there is over range calcium in my blood. GP not bothered by it but then again it's not her health! I stopped the Adcal done some research and started taking K2 Mk7, I supplement with D3, but not everyday now as levels now good. I take Magnesium Citrate and use Magnesium spray oil. Reading this article shows I should add Vitamin A also. My last blood test revealed that my calcium blood level is below now but still needs lessening. So I think it is safe to use D3 and Vit K2 Mk7 together.
Phew! x
