I am fed up with my endo. He will not adjust my dose of 175mcg levo because my results have been going up and down. This to me sounded alarm bells in that he doesn't know what he's doing or talking about. So, I have decided to take matters into my own hands since the endo is going to make me seriously ill.
I was diagnosed with underactive thyroid in 2012, Hashimoto's (I think) in 2014. Levothyroxine has never helped me feel better. Upon diagnosis my TSH was 23 (0.2 - 4.2) FT4 10.3 (12 - 22) but months before I felt something wasn't quite right with how I was feeling. I have a family history of autoimmune disease and for a while I was worried I would get diabetes since my mum and grandmother had it. Luckily I did not have it, it must have skipped me somehow, but I have gotten Hashimoto's instead.
Since I get the idea that my endo is going to be much more use then a chocolate teapot I have decided to come onto this site and get some tips/advice from people here, provided that what I will be doing will help me get well again. I have spent the previous 3 years trailing through my life with symptoms and I have only just got back into work a year ago after spending 2 years unemployed and feeling so awful.
So my symptoms are currently hard stool, feeling cold even in the warmth, pins and needles in feet, dry skin, dry eyes, heavy cycles, gaining weight very easily, hair loss, puffy eyes, losing sleep, alcohol intolerance, exercise intolerance.
I am aware my results indicate an increase but my endo has said he has never known a thyroid patient's results to change about a lot - I put that down to the Hashimotos and that the endo just does not understand. Or have I gotten this wrong and I am going mad? Also the endo is aware I have iron deficiency, vitamin D deficiency and folate deficiency and that I supplement; he has also said my ferritin would be better off at 70 or more - so why he is saying my symptoms are mental health related is beyond me and makes me think he hasn't been paying attention to my nutrient levels!
Thanks in advance.
