Hi first post on this forum. I was started on 50 mcg levothyroxine about a month ago. Endo wrote to GP asking to put me on it as my TSH was 44 and T4 was 7. No ranges were given on letter. I have felt no relief so far, and have more symptoms, including very red itchy rash on hands, which looks like hives but worse of all is the trembling inside, my hair actually moves and feels like I am plugged into something, really shaky, and suffering with anxious feelings, only go out if necessary, and freezing cold,, more than usual. I know you generally feel worse before feeling better. But I was wondering what was happening, so had Medii checks blood test done this week. My main concern is results say, folate, vits ferritin, are fine but TSH 47.3 (0.27-4.20) and T4 7.62 (12.00- 22.00) . T3 4.42 (3.10 -6.80) . Positive for antibodies . CRP hs raised 6.13 (0.00_5.00). Told to see GP. My main question is why would TSH go up if taking meds and what does the high CRP mean. Many thanks for reading this long post.
Raised tsh: Hi first post on this forum. I was... - Thyroid UK
Raised tsh
I get the really dry sore itchy hands as well and scalp
Hi thanks for reply, rash is driving me mad, so itchy and sore, I have tried every cream going and taken antihistamines, nothing helps. Started wearing fingerless gloves, not good look in warm weather,as so red and sore its embarrassing. Thanks again
Well, for a start, two weeks is not long enough to bring the TSH down. But, were the two tests done under the same circumstances - early morning and fasting? TSH is highest first thing in the morning, and drops throughout the day. But, it's really not enough of a difference to worry about.
CRP is an inflammation marker. Not surprising if you have inflammation with a TSH that high!
Thank you for your reply, first test was at endo clinic 9.30 am ,no food just water and medil check home test 8am no food just water again. I will continue with the 50mcg levothyroxine and give it more time to lower TSH, just hard when getting more symptoms. Glad there is reason for raised CRP hs, inflammation makes a lot of sense, as painful knee and elbow, haven't been able to get rings on for last 6 months. Panicked thought it was heart related. Thank you again
I think you're going to need several increases in dose before you manage to decrease the TSH to the desired 1 or under. The protocol is to retest after six weeks, and increase dose by 25 mcg. And repeat that process until symptoms are gone. When did the doctor tell you to go back for a test? Remember, for the retest, to leave 24 hours between your last dose of levo and the blood draw.
