Canestest false positive results

Has anyone used self-test (Canestest) for vaginal infections and had false positive results? I have been treated with antibiotics for kidney infection and going by urine testing this has cleared up.

I did the self-test and I could feel a sore area at top left of vagina. The tester turned blue which suggests I do have vaginal infection. I know for certain that it's not an STI. Another lady on here said she had done a self test which gave a false positive.

Appointment with urologist tomorrow for consultation - would he be able to tell if I had a prolapsed womb? I had anterior/posterior repair a year ago - in 2011 I had ovaries removed and was told at some stage I would probably need womb removal. This sore in vagina - could it be prolapse and caused infection.

Hi Cassandra i used this test a year ago and it was useless-i knew at the time it was BV as i had been swabbed and tested and it was not thrush but the test said it was thrush?? I usually go to the Sexual health clinic has they are not just there for STI's, their testing is thorough and they supply medication aswell. I thought i would see how accurate this test was and whether it would save me a journey to the clinic but i think i will stay where i am and treat it with proper meds. Good luck.😊😊

Thank you for your reply. Unfortunately we don't have a sexual clinic that we can just walk into but I'll check with GP. Do they use pessaries or tablets to clear the infection.

Gp/nurse should take a swab 1st to confirm what infection it is but most likley bv, it is treated with either Metronidazonole tablets or the internal gel.😊😊

Michelle GP took swab yesterday but didn't think it is BV as there isn't any odour - the area where I am so sore she can see inflammation and has prescribed Vagifem to see if that settles things down - maybe a week before results back

Gps are very confused by bv this is why i go to the clinic as they look at it under microscope there and then. You dont have to have the fishy odour(i know sounds disgusting) but you can be very sore and swollen and also itch, good she has sent the swab off as that will tell more-if things dont get sorted find youre nearest sexual health clinic as these people are a vast way more experienced and everything gets sorted on the day as they have testing labs there-you have to wait though-also dont be embarrassed everyone is there for different reasons😊😊 good luck and let me know result-pm me if you wish.xx

I didnt think it was candida-so bv then, have you got metronidzonol? They are very strong and do not drink with these-they also make you very tired and leave a nasty metallic taste but it does its job.xx

Yes Michelle that is the antibiotic I was prescribed - have just replied to Irina as well asking how long you leave after antibiotic finished before retesting - trying to stay in dressing gown and nightdress with no underwear while at home as gp said better to let air around the area . I definitely feel a bit of ease in the urethra area which was causing me so much pain any time I passed urine. Hopefully this antibiotic will clear it fully xx

Yes dont worry it will clear, i pass urine quite frequently when i have this as ive been a martyr for it for a few years now-the antibiotics are very strong and not pleasant-you can get a gel to insert if the tablets are not for you but ive got to say its not as good! I get alot of soreness with mine too😠 ive never been retested afterwards as you will know when its gone but the thing is 9 times out of ten it will rerurn later in a few monrhs-bloody thing always returns after a period with me!! The GU clinic is fantastic as you get treatment there and then and your meds, you can even buy the antibiotics online from lloyds pharmacy if you were unlucky to get it again instead of the gp. 😊😊 i done this a couple of months back.xx

Thank you michelle - tried lloyds local chemist and they say cannot purchase antibiotic so wonder if it is different online. I am well past period stage (67) and not sexually active so hopefully this will pass - a friend used to always be reinfected after a period so its more common than we think - i wish we had a clinic we could just walk in to - after justva day of the metronidzonal i notice less soreness in the uretha xx
