You only have TSH and FT4 with regard to your thyroid. The others have no bearing on whether or not you need to add T3 to your Levo.
As already mentioned, you need
TSH
FT4
FT3
TPO and TG thyroid antibodies
Vitamin D
Folate
Ferritin
B12
Hi katbar, if you are feeling good, I would say these are very adequate results. It's typical that they do not care for such a low TSH but we really don't worry about TSH once you begin taking hormones for your thyroid. This explains some specifics on some of those tests and which ones are more valid when you are hypothyroid. stopthethyroidmadness.com/l...
Hi, I have just had a letter today, from a Rheumatologist i saw, letting my GP know i have low Vit D. Could this contribute to my high TSH.
Kat, can you clarify anything about your TSH. I thought it was .05 which is very low NOT HIGH. However, your FT4 is high but not over the range. Some of the print is very light.
Your question about vitamin D is a good one. D is a prohormone which means you need enough of it to help all the other hormones work. This often happens to us who are hypothyroid. I don't know why because I get a very dark tan in the summer and I still have a hard time getting to 50 which is still deficient. Do you know what yours was and is the range 50 to 100 or 100 to 200.? If you are still low ask for a prescription dose of D3.
Hi, the print out did not scan too well, i will try and resend another one, my vit d is 44nmoI/l

They are saying your TSH is BELOW the lowest part of the range. This is not necessarily bad but very common when people are taking hormone.
THEY are saying to contact someone about it. Not necessarily. The thing is your FT4 is pretty high and it would be good to know what your FT3 is. They don't seem to have tested that and it's rather important because if your FT3 is as high as your FT4 in the range, it could mean you are over medicated. Do you feel over medicated? breathless, hot, can't sleep, etc.
No i dont have any symptoms, i had breathlessness last year and it has much improved, the Dr thought i could have copd, I sleep well, but do have times when i wake up and cannot get back to sleep for some time, this started in the meno. No hot sweats etc.
Is the TSH badly high, this si the first time i have had this result.
NO, your TSH is VERY, VERY LOW. You may not be reading the result correctly.
<0.05 miu/L This is your level. 0.27 - 4.20miu/L This is the range.
.05 is smaller than .27 so you are lower than the range.
So does low mean over medicated. thanks
Not always unless your FT3 is very high as well. The TSH test is really the pituitary's job in calling for your thyroid to work harder. When you are taking levo your thyroid isn't working that well and probably can't work very well anyway so your pituitary doesn't send out Thyroid Stimulation Hormone (TSH) in very large amounts. That's why it is so important to get a FT3 test so we can see what is really going on.
Was there a reason to see a rheumatologist? I ask because I was in a lot of pain after starting on Synthroid and went to one. I didn't have any of the R A factors though, I think it had more to do with using Synthroid similar to levo.
I was suffering with painful legs, it had been going on for a while, Dr thought could have Fibro but nothing wrong, apart from this low Vit D.
Will you begin taking vitamin d or if you already are, taking more to get your level more like 70? How about your diet? Have you tried going gluten free. We learned from a docuseries that many symptoms are coming from the brain. I went through phases of restless leg and burning thigh syndromes. It's complicated but has to do with inflammation in the body which will also affect the brain. Those nerves in the brain will affect the organs they lead to because muscle tension reduces blood supply. Relaxation techniques to reduce cortisol actually help as well. Hypo is not a simple condition and it takes a search to know how to treat.
I assume i will have to take Vit D, i went to a specialist because of the long term pains in my legs. Thank you .
Yes, try the vitamin D and get one that includes K2. Take at least 5,000 i.u. until you get to an optimal level. Consider going gluten or dairy free. These things usually have some sort of trigger. Good luck.
