Blue Horizon and Genova do private tests. I've just had some done by Blue Horizon.

thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/ - look under "About Testing - Private Testing" down left hand side for details.

Hi seasidesusie,

Which lot did you get? I'm looking at the advanced thyroid profile that includes tsh, t4, free t3, free t4 and thyroid antibodies. Is this comprehensive enough? Also, did you take your own blood or get a Dr to do it?

Thanks :)

I actually wanted comprehensive vitamin and mineral tests. I've been hypo for over 40 years and although thyroxine suits me I still have problems and I suspected it was something to do with Vit/min levels so I had the Comp Plus V which also included TSH and FT4.

The advanced thyroid profile seems to be good value and should give you everything you need if it's just thyroid tests you want. I didn't ask my GP if I could have blood taken there, it would have caused problems!! I travelled to a Spire hospital to have blood drawn and they couriered it to Blue Horizon.

Wherever you have blood drawn remember that for thyroid tests it should be done as early as possible in the morning and if you are on thyroid meds then leave them off for 24 hours.

Yes, I will be interested to see what answers you get regarding this question, too Clark! I am also thinking of getting private testing done, and looked at the various tests on Blue Horizon and Genova. There doesn't seem to be one which tests all the necessary stuff though. The new most expensive test on Blue Horizon sounds really good until I was alerted to the fact it doesn't test Tgab which means you could have Hashimoto's and without this test you would not have it diagnosed. Hopefully one of the really knowledgeable Thyroid People will be able to point out the test to give all the tests needed to investigate the Thyroid function fully to enable diagnosis of all the possible illnesses associated with the Thyroid.

Comprehensive thyroid test including TGAb and TPOAb.

Hiya I thanks for the link but it appears that it is not available for the public. Maybe there another way of getting the Comprehensive test?

in reply toBaggiebod

Gosh Baggiebod, I am sorry but must be automatically signed in. Can you not just create an account & password?

If not try this link which gives a back door approach through ThyroidUK website.

Look at "Thyroid Profile" and "Thyroid Plus" by clicking on

" download a PDF of Genova's list of testing".

Thanks this gives you the thyroid plus, which is similar to the comprehensive test? I am a thyroid 'virgin' so I am trying hard to learn quickly all this Thyroid information which is even more difficult with the brain fog 😰

in reply toBaggiebod

Baggybod,

Both tests include testing for Hashimoto antibodies.

I would go for the Throid Profile as Thyroid Plus contains the Reverse T3 levels as extra and this is not usually tested. Reverse T3 would need someone used to measuring it to read the results correctly.

Can you see this link?

Yes but it requires a practitioner 5 digit code to place an order 😨

humanbean profile image
humanbean in reply toBaggiebod

It gives you the code to use on this page :

thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/testin...

You can also see an almost complete list of Blue Horizon websites on this page :

thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/testin...

There is one website missing - another finger prick test site :

homebloodtest.co.uk/

Each of the websites listed has a search facility except for the one I gave above. Just do a search for thyroid. The choices and prices vary from site to site. Take note of special offers mentioned in the banner or in the columns on the left or right hand side of the page.

HI Blue Horizon are very good and finger prick tests are totally DIY, do not go to a private hospital as expensive. Quote TUK 10 for a discount. be sure to include FT3 with the test ie TSH, T4 and FT3.

I've just had a comprehensive test done by BH and had blood taken at The Spire in Wrexham. There was no extra cost involved and they arranged for the blood to be couriered to BH, all included in the price.

Hello, yes I live in Ipswich, I've not heard of biolab. Since I had mine done privately I was lucky enough to get T3 prescribed so that's now tested regularly on the NHS x
