I think the situation is brought about because nearly all of us have gone through a turmoil to be diagnosed or not given sufficient thyroid hormones and doctors giving us some other product for the symptom instead of being knowledgeable about hypothyroidism.
We had one doctor, now deceased, who was a Virologist who stated that the 'modern' method of diagnosing and treating was putting patients in a parlous condition. He meant that the modern way of not diagnosing until the TSH was 10, ignoring all clinical symptoms and the emphasis being on a result of a blood test whether or not we'd get an increase. Whereas before blood tests and levo we were given increases of NDT until we were symptom-free.
People who are very symptomatic remain undiagnosed/untreated as they have to wait till TSH is 10 and they could be quite ill by that time. Many doctors believe once the TSH is 'somewhere' in the range we're on sufficient and still don't take account of symptoms.
So, if we can be helpful and each member has knowledge of her/his condition and which could help another struggling member to relieve all symptoms by encouraging them to look 'outside the box'. Even changing thyroid hormones can make a big difference if not recovering on levothyroxine which is the only thing doctors will prescribe and sometimes not to an optimum dose.
