QUESTION: I have suffer from Hypothyroidism by... - Thyroid UK
QUESTION
Welcome to our forum Zubinv. I am sorry you are hypothyroid and your doctor is wrong to keep your TSH at 4.05. The aim is a TSH of 1 or lower but many doctors are so poorly trained they believe that once our TSH is somewhere within the 'normal range we're on sufficient.
Usually we don't recommend supplementing with iodine as it is within thyroid hormone replacements.

You can take any supplements for vitamins/minerals 4 hours apart from levothyroxine.
Request an increase in your dose till it is around 1 or lower whatever makes you feel better.
Request a Full Thyroid Function Test (GP probably or lab wont do so but you can get a Private One if you wish from one of our two labs who do home pin-prick tests.
TSH, T4, T3, Free T4, Free T3 and thyroid antibodies (if you've not had antibodies tested before.
B12, Vit D, iron, ferritin and folate. GP should test these.
All tests for thyroid has to be at the very earliest possible, fasting (you can drink water) and allow a gap of 24 hours between last dose and test and take it afterwards.
Always get a print-out from the surgery, with the ranges. Ranges are important for comments to be made.
thanks for your advice .My test came back at TSH 4.05 he has increased by dosage to 125mcg for 05days and 175mcg for 2days of Euthyrox .I was a little confused as most websites say if you take Euthyrox any multivitamins with iodine 150upg can influence the thyroid levels is it true or not .My doctor told me i can Vitabiotics wellman which contains Iron Iodine and CQ10 will these all interact if had 04 hours after my thyroid meds which i have on an empty stomach in the morning
You're wasting your money with that multivit. If it contains iron, you will not be able to absorb any of the vitamins. Iron should be taken at least two hours away from everything. And, if you are hypo, you really do not want to take iodine, unless you have been tested and found deficient in it. Excess iodine can cause a lot of problems. Especially if you have Hashi's. You are already getting iodine from your food and from your Euthyrox - 100 mcg Euthyrox will give you 65 mcg iodine, so with your dose you will be getting 81.25 mcg extra iodine on 5 days, and 113.75 mcg extra iodine on 2 days! I really don't think you need any more on top of that.
Also, if you take a look at the ingredients, you will find Vitabiotics wellman contains calcium. The calcium will bind with the iron and you won't be able to absorb either of them. That's an awful lot of money for something you can't absorb! Plus it contains an awful lot of copper. Most hypos are high in copper, so you really shouldn't take that without getting tested first. You really do not want to over-dose on copper!
For the other things, it doesn't contain nearly enough to be of any use. 60 mg magnesium is like a drop in the ocean! You probably need a lot more than that - say 400 mg? And, as to the quality of the ingredients, if the fact that it contains folic acid, rather than methlyfolate is anything to go by, the quality will be of the lowest. You have to take the right sort of magnesium to be able to absorb it.
And, finally, when you take a bunch of random stuff, like that, in one tablet, there's always the chance that it will contain something that doesn't agree with you - like ginseng, for example, which doesn't agree with everyone - and you won't know which it is.
The best thing to do, as shaws says, is get your vit D, vit B12, folate and ferritin tested, and base your supplementation on the results, taking only what you need, in quantities you need it. And avoid multivits like the plague.
thank very much for breaking down .Your explanation is very helpful
