Has anyone started taking vitamin D (either in morning or afternoon) and found it to dsrupt their sleep? I keep having same issues and believe it to be a selenium issue or vitamin D but dont have labs to prove it and have trouble sleeping at night when I do take it.
Ive been doing research but will not see a doctor for another month. my family care physician has handed me over to a new endo. I think supplements just dont agree with me.

Vit D supplements can disturb sleep in some people if taken in the evening. Have you had Vit D tested? You shouldn't supplement without testing as it is fat soluble and excess is stored and can reach toxicity level.
Hi seasideSusie, no i havent gotten it tested. Its been difficult to get vitamins and minerals tested from my doctor. Have only done research for my symptoms but I will see if I cant in the future.
Vitamin D should be taken with a good fat eg butter or coconut oil, magnesium, vit k2 and a probiotic if possible. These all help the vit d3 work. Which vit d3 product are you using and how much? I personally find some product don’t work for me, probably an absorption issue, you might have a similar issue.
Thank you for your response, i didnt know this. I took naturewise vitamin D3 5,000IU. I agree with that although Seasidesusie made a good point that its not good take something if you havent been tested. I am thinking tyat i have an absorbtion issue though too. Almost any supplments i take make me sick (minus liquid iron). It does help thank you!
I have Hashimotos and I cannot take Vitamin D. It gives me insomnia and makes me feel restless. If I need a boost I have a weekly 4 minute sunbed session, which is not harmful, even then I can get insomnia. For people with thyroid issues vitamin D is a contentious subject as we can get a condition called Vitamin D Dysregulation, where conversely it is not absorbed in the way it should be and makes us have too much circulating which causes issues such as disrupted sleep. Just stop it, it won't kill you.
Im sorry to hear that your going through this. I have these same issues. That is neat that you found something that works for you though :). What is a sunbed? I think that is the problem im having and stopping is a good idea too.
ChippySue thank you for sharing. How is it working for you? I think i shouldve gottentested first, i just made an appointment with a functional med doctor so hopefully we will see what is going on at deeper level. That is a good point. It is hard to tell what causes insomnia.
Not wise to take at night - Vitamin D places calcium around the body - calcium is OK but needs magnesium too to ensure it doesn't lay down in the arteries etc. - Magnesium citrate is the best product and should be taken 4 hours away from thyroid meds.
Mg citrate can act as a laxative, so may not be best for everyone.
I use the chelated form at bedtime, or transdermal which is better absorbed & cheap to make. Boron is also essential (I eat nuts & seeds? to make sure calcium reaches our bones, & vitamn K2 from fermented foods such as kefir & certain cheese.
D3 aids absorption of calcium from food and it's K2-MK7 that directs the calcium to bones and teeth and away from arteries and soft tissues, not magnesium. Magnesium helps the body use D3.
Hi there - interesting web link thanks - but it has to be remembered that calcium is a blood clotter - add that to Vitamin K which is also a clotter and which seems to be the latest fad by the supplement manufacturers to put in every multi vitamin and mineral preparation (which I am complaining to them about as I have suffered with sticky blood Hughes Syndrome which would be a disaster for me to take) - if you google " too much calcium and strokes" - you will see the result of not taking the right amount of magnesium which dilutes the harmful effects of calcium within the body - without Mg then the calcium is not metabolised in the right way. I suffer with Mg deficiency and if I take calcium on its own and my hubby too - we ache all over which shows we don't have enough Mg and the calcium is not doing us any good whatsoever. Calcium also leads to spurs on the joints too I could go on and on ...............we have enough calcium in our diet - what we don't have is enough Mg to use it correctly within the body.
Always recommended on here never to bother with multivitamin/mineral supplements. They're just not worth it, too little of anything to do any good, very often the least absorbable forms of the ingredients, and all to often containing iron, calcium, iodine - none of which should be taken unless tested and found deficient and iron taken at the same time as anything else means their absorption will be affected, iron needs to be taken 2 hours away from other supplements.
We always suggest testing and supplementing appropriately where necessary.
Sorry I don't understand why you are talking about multi vitamins and minerals as a reply to my post - but can tell you that as someone who is tested regularly for vitamin and mineral deficiencies and hormones because I unfortunately seriously malabsorb - and suffer textbook deficiency disease states too - even scurvy when my adrenals were grabbing the Vitamin C to keep my adrenals from failing - a mutli vitamin and mineral supplement does have a place in supporting the sick/thyroid patient and if you can't take any of the items within the general supplement then you can buy them as drops as I do and uptake individually depending on the deficiency ............but of course it depends on the supplement company you use and chosen well the ingredients are about right to raise the deficiency- it can take up to 3 months to reverse a deficiency - of course if you are saying that all supplements are good they are not - you need the professional ones like Bio Care etc. - it matters that you might not be deficient in ALL of the items you are taking but you need the multi vit and mineral to keep the foundation right for the thyroid and then add on top of that those that you are low on. I take a good multi vitamin and mineral but am struggling at the moment for find them without iodine and without Vit K as they all seem to think this is a good idea for their supplement range. I have been in contact with several companies who have taken on board that we don't all need these two new items they are adding everywhere.

No I'm not, whenever I mention supplements I aways state something like "decent" or "good" brands or "stay away from supermarket/high street brands" and the suggestions I give are always good quality brands.
I take a good mineral complex that doesn't contain iron, iodine or calcium.
I take vitamin D3 from choosetobehealthy. com. It is food-based, so very difficult to "overdose"...! Since starting it, I have found my moods to be MUCH more stable, and no problems with sleep (I take it with lunch -- then magnesium (also from choosetobehealthy) at bedtime.
I take my D3 late morning ( Doctors Best) together with K2 MK7. I have noticed it gives me more energy during the day. But I also take Magnesium Glycinate in the evening and that helps me sleep. As I need quite a few supplements, I always check the ingredients to make sure they don’t have any fillers in them which I might react to.
