Thankyou very interesting as i am iron deficient ferritin and folate are very dire, im taking floravital at the moment and it seems to be giving me less heart palps, breathless, trembling as improved aswell, people just dont realise how lacking in all these minerals and vitamins effects our body and makes us so ill.😊

Very interesting article. Especially about high ferritin can be masking low iron

Thank You janesp, that was definitely most useful. Been wondering for a long time if problems such as low iron, ferritin, iodine, selenium, zinc, (even vitamin D and B12,) were sorted beforehand would I have gone down the low thyroid route and have needed to be on thyroid medication ? Just a silly thought before, but now wondering more about it after reading your post link.

Yes, I know what you mean!

Before I had the blood test that showed my Ferritin was low I'd been taking Floradix as felt very weak after a flu bout - this probably pushed my levels up so it makes we wonder how low they really were beforehand. Not a silly thought at all, my personal feeling is that we are all so individual and unique when it comes to biochemistry, who knows?

Hi janesp ....many thanks for posting this. I'm particularly interested in the low ferritin/ damaged nails link. Several GPs have been unable to explain why the nails on my right hand are almost non existence. I'm about to start adding iron to my "mix" so fingers crossed.

Good, hope it’s useful. I’m getting a Medichecks test done Monday week to see if my supplementing Iron since Jan this year has helped. I’ve been fairly conservative with it as have been wary of causing other problems. I’m almost certain that a low ferritin level has caused immunity issues with me over the years, I.e. getting ill every 6 to 10 weeks and nearly losing my job through absence. Being semi vegetarian didn’t help my health!

Thank you. Hope the test goes well. I'm trying to sort out hypo issues... and as someone here said "to get all my ducks (supplements) in a row first. Just so sick of feeling sick...but, thanks to so much good advice here I think there is now some light at the end of the tunnel. Your point about a conservative approach to supplementing is wise...so, think I'll go for alternate days to begin with. So much to get this old head round! I'm also semi veggie!

Yes, I’ve been doing alternate days with 100mg iron and 1000mg Vit C.
