what are the cancer's that are connected to Ferritin? I take Gentle iron for my deficiency should I be taking anything else = Does taking the iron from Solgar treat Ferritin levels or do I need to be doing something else.. Thanks for any reples 😊 x

Hi Scorpio, I'm not sure why iron is so implicated in cancer and you also NEED it. Dr. Mercola had a wonderful article about the latest on cancer. It's all about inflammation which makes cells vulnerable and then it's ALL about sugar. If people move into a state of ketosis, it starves cancer. This is a high fat diet, no sugar and consume protein at a half gram per pound of body weight. I would do this before chemo therapy any day of the week.

Vitamin D is now concerning because converting from inactive to active forms seem to be very difficult for some people. It may not be a good idea to supplement D for these people.

I'm taking folate acid should I take anything else I wonder for the Ferritin deficiency is a worry I have... Thanks for reply...

Folic acid is not a good thing to take. You should be supplementing that B12 with sublingual methylcobalamin from Solgar, or Jarrows. And, with that, take a good B complex to balance the Bs. If you get one with methylfolate, instead of folic acid (Thorne B complex), it will bring your folate up nicely.

Solgar iron does raise the ferritin, but you might not be taking enough. You should take at least 1000 mg vit C with it to help absorption and avoid constipation.

Hi was given 5mg of Folate acid... I had the Gentle iron from Solgar... I'm taking b12 Solgar and a b complex.. What would you say about that? Can get some C? Thanks x

Yes, doctors always give you folic acid. It's the cheapest. Like they give you vit D2, instead of D3. Does not mean it's a good thing to take.

Ok I will drop the folate.. I have the Incite complex B is that no good to take with the solgar b12 tablet? Gentle iron Solgar 25mg... So any suggestions on the rest thanks

Well, it just contains folic acid, like your taking. What you really want is methylfolate. Thornes do a better one.

Iron really isn't my subject. I think you'd be better asking in a new question. But, I think that's a bit low.

You really need to supplement that low vit D3, too. You could take about 2000 IU daily. But take some vit K2 with it. Vit D increases absorption of calcium from food, so you need the K2 to make sure it goes into the bones and teeth, and not the tissues.

GP gave me Pro d3 10.000 iu to take every other day, but I've been taking it every day? Thanks I appreciate the help... Is that one any good?

I've never tried that one, but it looks ok.

I'm sorry, l left off a zero. I should have said 20 000 iu. 10 000 every other day isn't very much. You need quite a high dose to begin with, and then you can lower it when your level rises a bit.

Oh, a couple of weeks, perhaps. :) But, after that, I would take 10 000 a day, not every other day.

For ferritin, yes as it is too low. Ferritin should be half way through range, 70 for thyroid hormone to have a chance of working, 90+ even better.

You would be better off taking folate, which is natural, rather than folic acid which is synthetic chriskresser.com/folate-vs-...

Listen to greygoose and I would add that often people are low in iron because you need stomach acid to metabolize minerals and we hypos often don't produce enough. Taking apple cider vinegar or betaine with meals could help. Try to avoid folic acid (it's in a lot of processed foods).

I think the connection is supposed to be high iron - eg haemochromatosis.

Hi just be be cautious with the vitam d3. I took 10 000ius twice a week for 10 weeks and mine shot up from 19 to 90 which was good but enough. Now I take 2000ius a day. In the winter i may take more. People say these doses are low but they were more than enough for me. Everybody's body reacts differently so you may or may not need to increase your dose.
