Thyroid Auto immune profile?

I have posted here before i actually collected the print out of my Thyroid autoimmune profile today and very disappointed only one listed:

Thyroid Perox ABS 898 iu/ml >100 is positive for possible auto immune thyroiditis

I had my levothyroxine increased 1 week ago to 75mcg

Should i be asking for anything else to be tested at my next blood test in early feb? or is this enough?

I will ask for folate, ferritin, vitD to be run again as well as the TSH the first test since the dose increase

i have started Vit D, Mg and a B complex supplements as of yesterday, as suggested previously by this forum

Anything missing so i go well informed?

Thanks in advance

MishB,

Thyroid peroxidase antibodies (TPOab) 898 means you are positive for autoimmune thyroiditis (Hashimoto's). Not sure what else you expected but TPOab is all that NHS usually tests and as result is positive you don't need anything else tested and NHS won't retest it.

There is no cure for Hashimoto's which causes 90% of hypothyroidism. Levothyroxine treatment is for the low thyroid levels it causes. Many people have found that 100% gluten-free diet is helpful in reducing Hashi flares, symptoms and eventually antibodies.

Lovely thankyou for clarifying that, only seen lots of other tests listed from others n thought maybe gp had missed something

Will be patient and wait til feb for next gp appt, letting the increased levo hopfully improve symptoms and being good with advice from here re extra vits n gf diet

I live in the US. A few months ago, I sought out a functional medicine doctor because gad gained some weight and I couldn’t get rid of it. She recommended going gluten free and cutting ou sugar . I have Hashimoto’s, the most prevalent hypo-thyroid condition here. My TPO Antibodies dropped from over 1200 to less than 500 in the six months since I started following her advice. Those were the only changes I made, which were honestly, pretty difficult. It forced me to make two meals each night, one for my husband and one for myself. Eating out in restaurants is limiting and not as much fun. On the plus side, I’ve had a 10 percent weight reduction. (150 pounds to 135). I have always followed a very healthy and clean diet. These two things for the missing pieces. Unfortunately, I wish I could say I felt better, that is just not the case. I am also trying to make changes to improve my gut health and I know this takes quite a while to recognize the effects. Hopefully in another six months I will begin to reap the benefits of the hard work I’ve done.
