Hi All,

I am just starting natural thyroid meds after managing to source some after my usual supplier stopped. I haven’t taken anything for a couple of yrs and slowly have gained weight, felt tired, swollen ankles etc,

Can I hear people’s results on natural thyroid medication? And how fast they worked for you..

Thanks

Hello Amyjay :

No thyroid hormone replacement works well until ferritin, folate, B12 and vitamin D are up and maintained at optimal - so first off suggest you get an advanced, full thyroid blood test to cover the TSH, Free T3 and Free T4 along with the above vitamins and minerals, inflammation and thyroid antibodies so we have bench readings to compare back to -

it's around 10/11 biomarkers and if your doctor can't run this for you there are private companies who can - details on the Thyroid Uk website who are the charity which supports this patient to patients open forum and we can read the blood tests for you and advise on your next best step back to better health.

You probably need to go back to square 1 and build up your dose slowly starting with 1/2 grain and increase low and slow in 1/4 grains :

I'm not sure I can put a time line on for you to start feeling improved without further information - maybe I should have looked back which I'll do now.

P.S. Did you ever get an official diagnosis of Hashimoto's through your doctor and prescribed T4 - Levothyroxine - but find it's not working well and facing no solution from your primary care doctor and why you took to self medicating ?

I'm so sorry - this is so wrong - hope since - you have changed your doctor ?

Did you try T4 Levothyroxine or go straight onto NDT - do you remember what dose you built up to previously and if this relieved your symptoms of hypothyroidism ?

Did you get checked out for certain foods- and tested for celiac disease and pernicious anemia ?

As I understand things with Hashimoto's there can be gut issues - and after the removal of certain foods- especially gluten - some patients feel much better with reduced stomach issues and bloating.

Looking back I see SDragon gave you an extensive reply some years ago -
