If you feel well then stick with 2 grains. If not, consider raising dose until FT3 is 5.5 - 6.8 and TSH is 0.27 -1.0 or lower. FT4 is often low, even below range, when taking NDT. It doesn't matter as long as FT3 is good.
You could increase by 1/2 grain now, and again in 2 weeks. Hold at 3 grains for 6-8 weeks and have a thyroid test including FT3 before increasing further.
VitD is replete >75 but will drop if you don't maintain level with 2,000iu daily until end of March. Take vitD 4 hours away from NDT.
Thanks for replying Cluttet , no I don't feel too great so tomorrow I will as suggested add 1/2 grain and again in 2 weeks if required , it's hard with no GP to help I appreciate your taking the time to reply , thanks
I don’t bother with the doctor for my thyroid treatment and your GP sounds awful and not worth consulting with. I don’t do blood tests but just go on how I feel and so far so good. It can feel lonely but it is also empowering.
You will be able to get a more optimal dose and feel better again you are just a bit undermedicated.
This guide is very good on NDT generally and how to achieve optimum NDT dosage. I have used it to good result.
Seriously, try some other gp practices and keep seeing them until you find someone better. At my practice when I fell ill I got told Hashimotos could be fixed with levothyroxine and was “nothing serious” and that my vitamin b level of 283 was normal. They were so so awful. I took a shot at another doctors practice and have found a wonderful gp who is working WITH me on this. She will test me for anything I ask and has even said I probably know more about my condition than her! Keep trying to find someone in your area there will be someone better than him for sure. Good luck x
Thanks for replying , I am glad you found a listening , helpful GP , I asked mine if we could work together he said the NHS were responsible for my health not me !! He only offers Levo nothing else , it doesn't do it for me . The next place to me is the same practice.
You have not said how you feel, if you feel alright stick to two grains if not 2.5 maybe.
I never felt 100% when on 2, 2.5 or 3 and have added some T3 in and now feel OK.
I was told to increase by quarters once I reached 2 grains as it's easy to miss your sweet spot and I got up to 3 grains and didn't feel quite there but my body wouldn't take any more! I was tested at this point and Endo told me to drop down to 1.75 and he was right! Since then I'm on more medication for cancer treatment and have had to move up to 2 grains as an absorption issue now but otherwise things going well. I side have an absorption issue but corrected that before I changed over. I found that being slightly over medicated and slightly under are too similar so now if I am uncertain I always drop back a quarter and see what happens over a couple of weeks. If worse I know I should have gone up a little.
Thanks for replying and yes its so difficult to get the right dose and also difficult to know if you are under or over because the symptoms are so similar , when I started on Levo years ago it worked for a while then not and seems similar on NDT , so complex , I'm moaning on about me when you have Cancer to deal with , I hope you get better soon x
I find temperature is the best guide for me: if I feel cold I am undermedicated, if it is not quite the right dose I get bouts of hot sweats, if I am over I start feeling warm all the time.
I feel angry either way overnor under (and sometimes at the right dose! My grandmother was a mercurial woman) but very agitated and nervy if I am over.
your GP has a duty of care towards you and if he/she is not listening to you and not interested, ask to transfer to another doctor within the practice or better still change GP surgery, I changed my surgery in September, then I have just changed to another GP within the practice because the first doctor, told me I was a very complex case and he didn't know what to do with me. so wrote to practice manager, I am now with a senior doctor with more experience. Sometimes its good to get a fresh pair of eyes looking at things. good luck.
Same here....mine just looks at me with a puzzled look on his face, squinting his eyes up....I have multiple health issues, two inherited conditions etc...he real,y doesn't know or doesn't want to know.
I too gave a GP WHO SIMPLY DOESNT LISTEN, INTERUPTS...and makes you feel guilty fir bothering him....I changed mine today......DO IT...NEW Years RESOLUTION !!! Good luck.
