Are you still on Omeprozole and has your duodenal ulcer healed? I think you need to check with your GP to find out whether your ulcer has healed and I expect you need to be off omeprozole before adding anything else into the mix so check with your prescriber.

You could, though, research diet and nutrition to improve your gut function with better nutrition and natural foods. You could try going gluten free for 3 months for example. Has your doctor ruled out coeliac disease and have you had your vitamin levels tested?

No not on omeprazole anymore, and from what I can make out my ulcer was very small . Have had vitamins checked and they are all in the low end

Have you already posted your vitamin results or do you want to post them here for some suggestions? It might be good to optimise those first and going gluten free is also a good idea.

Please make sure your ulcer's healed before using. I've been taking betaine HCL with pepsin for a while. Helped my digestion. I don't feel full after eating. In case you don't know, start with one pill & increase by one pill until you feel warmth in your stomach or discomfort. Then, reduce by one pill.

You should have had a follow up gastroscopy 6 weeks after the first one for an ulcer healing check. Sometimes they don’t heal and need an increase in dose. Omeprazole should have been taken twice a day and you usually stay on it for life decreasing the dose to once a day if advised to do so.

There are better drugs than Omeprazole (that’s the cheapest) and a good doctor would prescribe something like Esomeprazole or one of the newer ones like Rabeprazole. As usual it comes down to cost.

I am pleased that you have come off Omeprazole. Recent research has shown that long-term use of PPIs, such as Omeprazole, is not good news as they can ruin your gut. I was on them for about 10 years and am paying the penalty but things are gradually improving. I also had an ulcer, but many years ago now. As I used the PPI to counter the effect of a daily anti-inflammatory for pain (from fibromyalgia), I can't take that now either. I would have thought that taking Betaine HCL with pepsin would not be a good idea until you find out about your ulcer. You may find that you feel better anyway in time now that you have stopped Omeprazole.
